ROCKETCINE-X Bugs, Comments, Help...

Fit height will be in the next build.

Any chance we can get a padding option?

Would be great when going to non square formats. Right now (And for the next two years) we are doing a lot of transcodes into anamorphic SD, from 4k 2:1.
Would be great to be able to do this in one step, rocket accelerated....

Definitely. We added 2:1 for the display in Rocketcine and are working on adding all the padding/scaling options now.

A couple of quick questions:

- Is RocketCine-X able to open on a machine without the rocket installed?
- Does transcode w/ the rocket take any longer at ProRes HQ 444 than ProRes HQ 422?

So with build 661, we've had some great success with a machine that isn't connected to our SAN. We had a shoot on our stage and within 20 minutes after they wrapped, we delivered a drive with all the files on it to start the edit. Footage looked amazing played out to a 60" Pioneer Elite Plasma. It was very cool.

First, thanks for getting RSX support. That makes this program functional in my opinion! It worked really well.

We're still having a couple of issues. We've had a problem where the RedRocket says it's in a 4x lane, but we've installed it in the 16x slot. This has happened on two different 2008 Mac Pros. Not sure what the deal is. Even then, the Mac connected to it's own storage worked fine, but the drive connected to the SAN is stalling right and left.

So when we have it in the computer connected to our SAN, it only plays back a few seconds before dropping frames. With version 661, we can now store looks okay, but when we try adjust more than one parameter, we get the spinning beach ball that locks up the program.

I've tried to re-seat the card in the slot and it didn't help.

Any suggestions or anyone having any similar issues?

-Russ

Hi Russ,

I posted in another thread about MacPro 3,1 and the lane count changing. We're looking into that.

For the san issue, can you email me your system profile file? (deanan @ red)
I heard from another suer that after updating their ATTO drivers, things were good. Are you using the ATTO or a different FC card?

Hello JD,

RocketCine-X only works with REDROCKET install. The app itself opens without the card I remember.

ProRes 4444 will take more time than 422 since the file is larger at least. The debayer and decoding part of R3D would be the same, only difference would be the non RED ROCKET related QT converting, so you can see the difference in rendering time with you computer without REDROCKET.

Russ,

I get the RR running at x4 every time reconfigure the PCIe configuration, then upon power cycle, it comes up with x8 to me.

Also, with metaSAN, my RR is working fine. I'm with ATTO Celerity.

We have the Apple Fibre card in it. Sending files to you now.

Someone might have mentioned it already but I just noticed that in RocketCine it seems the color temp graphic is upside down, when I slide it to the yellow/red the picture gets cooler and when to the blue the picture gets warmer. No big deal.

Also it seems that with the Rocket card installed you can no longer render out using After Effects CS4 using multiprocessing. If you turn off multiprocessing in the AE prefs it will render without crashing but much slower. I wonder if someone else can confirm this.

John

Is there a way to adjust RSX in and out points from an edl or xml file so that you could use RocketCine to just render what you need?

Kaku,

Seriously thinking about purchasing a Rocket card -- but I'm trying to get a feel for the interface of Rocketcine-X before I do. I've got build 661 & the latest RR installer on my MacPro but the app won't open.

It's just saying I don't have a RR card installed.

JD,

The current version of ROCKETcine-X and the RR driver are early beta, so I don't know if you will be satisfied, but I'm happy and was willing to work and get ready for the future editing environment, so I'm okay.

Hans was saying that his Clipfinder will support RR and when that happens, I will use Clipfinder mostly.

This one is up for debate. Do you represent the color temp of the the lights in the footage or the color you use to correct the color temp?
It's currently set to the color of the correction. IMHO, neither are right or wrong.

I'm willing to deal with whatever bugs still remain -- I mostly had questions about the interface of RocketCine-X that I was hoping could be answered by opening the app w/o the rocket.

Do you happen to know if it allows batching clips the way RedRushes currently does? How much control do you have over applying specific look files to specific clips (if you can, in fact, batch)?

JD,

Say, you made a look with one clip, then do a select all in the clip list, then choose apply to selected in the look window. That will copy that specific look preset to all of the clips.
There is a check box at the head of each clip name, so you can choose to select at your will then use "apply to selected" will work on only the ones you selected.

Hi Kaku!

I want to buy the RED Rocket too, but i dont know if it will support REDLine in a near future.

I mostly use Clipfinder that i like very much.

In the meanwhile, can i t least apply a look to several clips and do a batch render with REDCINE-X ?

Thanks!

Antoine

RocketcineX let you save look presets and apply them to groups of clips easily. It also lets you create presets for outputting which can then be added to a batch for output.

Antoine,

You got the answer for THE man! It was said it will support REDLINE in a near future.

Rocket Render Time

Rocket Render Time

Currently, I have the RR in the 2nd PCI-E slot on a 2008 2.8 Octo MAC with 10GB Ram. It gives me that "Your RR is in x4 PCI-E Lane" message when I boot up the RocketCine. The render results vary from like 4:1 to 12:1 when exporting 1080 ProRes HQ. If I render one clip at a time, and restart the RocketCine between each render, I get about 4:1. If I render a group of clips, I get about 12:1 render time.

When I re-boot my Mac with a min. interval, the first clip renders 4:1, but the rest get 12:1.

Is there anything I can do to maintain the 4:1 render time. That'd make me a bit more happy for now. :001_unsure:
