ROCKETCINE-X Bugs, Comments, Help...

haven't used the Rocket in a few days, so I may be behind here, but...

if I export Quicktimes and background render while making corrections on another clip, then

A) the RocketCine display window jumps around, reframing the shot
B) the QT that is rendered does the same thing

doesn't seem to do this unless background rendering is happening. which I have not been doing - but I'd like to start...

Both are fixed in the new build going out soon.

also...will there be a way to cancel a render that is happening in the background?

and will there be a progress bar added, at some point...it is a little bit hard to check on what is being rendered and how far along the batch is...

You can already cancel a render but not a whole batch.

Progress bar is also on the list.

and one more thing - if I hit the "generate wrappers" button, my color space is radically different - dropped in a few jpgs for illustration...

ok, being quiet and listening now...

A completely new quicktime redcode codec needs to be released with more of the color control and new color science. This issue is also the same with redalert. This is next on the list to get finished.

Hi Guys -

I want to render out a whole day's worth of r3d's for offline, but can't seem to figure out how to batch render in rocketcineX. Am presently rendering clips one-by-one - any help would be greatly appreciated.

That's in the newest version which should be released soon (hopefully tonight or tomorrow morning).

Rendering to SANs

Rendering to SANs

Howdy,

Is anyone out there rendering to a CXFS SAN? I am, and am having some weird results. Pre Red Rocket using Red Alert, or Red Cine, I could write fine to the CXFS filesystem, if it was a quick cjob I could use my local box, or a bigger job I could use our Render Farm, no problems. Now when writing to to CXFS, a 42 second 4K clip to 1920x1080 dpx takes well over thirty minutes to render, the same clip to a local raid writes just a hair faster then real-time.

Once the clip is rendered, I can play it back in real time from any box attached to the SAN.

I opened a case with RED and they are looking into it. Anyone else out there with a similar problem? Or a solution?

Regards,
Duck

Duck, can you email me specs on your system and san?

Love the new version of RocketCineX, select all and export selected work well. I have a problem with DnxHD 175 exports, they come up as digital noise, and the Avid doesn't like them either. Is this a format that is usable on a software only media composer?
thanks

I had the same problem but it was the version of the codec i had installed which was old. The latest v2 from the Avid site works fine. Rebuild your presets after installing.

Deanan-As I see it, footage cannot be played back HD-SDI at 29.97, is that correct? I played some clips back that were shot 29.97 and they would only play at 24. The screen glitched at 29.97.

Also, due to our Kona LHe being in slot 2, we had to move our Kona to slot 3. It is showing as 4x under the system profile. Is that going to hurt our playback and/or transcode speeds?

Thanks for all the hard work. It's getting great!

Hi Kevin,

What firmware/drivers/app versions are you on?
That was fixed a couple builds back but I'll try to replicate your setup exactly to recreate here if it's happening with the latest stuff.

If rocket is in a x4, it'll affect playing back full 4k to the host graphics card or doing 4k dpxes. 2k however should be fine.

I'm not sure being in a x4 would affect kona. I'd guess it shouldn't but don't know for sure.

The drivers got me. I didn't know you had to update them separately to the rest of the install. Updating brought out all the other resolutions.

Dudes, some teething problems, running 10.5.8/16G RAM/Dual Quad-Core 2.26, '09 model, writing to XSAN..

things i've noticed:

- some clips only half rendering, or refusing to render past the first frame when doing a small batch render (around 10 clips)
- rocketcineX crashing when attempting to render more clips than this (ie:50)
- rocketcineX freezing up when I change the resolution of the clip I am viewing (ie: to 1920x1080 from 1280x720 in 'Video Output Mode')
- not being able to render anything without first creating a new render preset (ie: it crashes when you try and use an old preset)
- freezing up when changing debayer modes

Cheers

Looks like it might be best to delete the old presets in case the newer quicktime output mode is getting confused with the old one.

Please send me an email so we can get more details.

I'm still having render problems with cine-x, batch renders unable to render fault. Export selected asks me for a different folder for every file. When i change video output dettings with a file open , it freezes and have to restart. Is this something to do with the way i have installed the new drivers.? Running 8 core 3.2ghx 2008, osx 10.5.8, 16gb ram. :thumbup1:

I've been having some of these same problems as well, it's certainly beta. But when you get the stars all lined up right, it sure does fly.

I've found that if I'm having crashing, or files that don't want to render, or errors, that if I shut the computer down, wait about a minute and startup. Then start over without launching any other apps, it works most of the time.

Also, I've found that removing items from the Clip List tends to cause the Export and Export Selected buttons to break (nothing happens when you press them), so don't do that. Also, I've had better luck when adding clips one at a time to the list rather than using the Open Folder function. Lastly, setting it to external (YUV 422) when batch exporting seems to help stability, though I'm not sure that really made a difference, still testing as I go.

It's not perfect, but it's an improvement from the previous version where I was using QuickKeys to automate things.

Excellent!

I'm generally not a fan of trolltech/Nokia QT, but in this case it makes sense and seems to work pretty well.

Just noticed that Rocketcine writes the field dominance property correctly in the QuickTime header. Great!

DPX performance is simply stunning, Quicktime is still way slower. It's still faster than any other process though :-)

One thing that needs rethinking is the whole "Selected" scheme.
It would make more sense if the checkboxes function was called "Enabled", as you can also select a clip by clicking the name with mouse whereby it is highlighted in white.
Normal mulitiselection by shift clicking and click and drag would be great for copy and pasting looks, as hitting those checkboxes is getting tiresome really fast.

Also maybe scale the UI textures back a bit, it is a little hard on the eyes in the long run.

But overall, very very promising!
