Sasha Grey: "The Girlfriend Experience" Available TODAY?

Brown Bunny was shot on an Aaton Super-16 camera and then blown up to 35mm. I used to have a copy of the eBay listing Gallo wrote when he sold the camera package after the shoot. It was one of the most unintentionally funny documents I've ever come across, especially if you know anything about the man and even a glancing knowledge of the technology.

Want some real entertainment? Do some internet searches to learn about the "feud" between Gallo and film critic Roger Ebert. In a nutshell, Ebert saw a rough cut at Cannes of Brown Bunny and didn't like it. Gallo reacted in a typical Gallo way, saying something to the effect of "he should get cancer." When the film was later recut and eventually released, Ebert saw it again and gave it a positive review. Gallo remained, well, Gallo. Years later Ebert actually got throat cancer and Gallo, again, was Gallo.

Okay, so my cable system has the movie, but they are charging $11.99 to view it for a "24 hour rental". What the heck is that? Does this mean I can't DVR it and watch it later?

Speaking of Vincent Gallo being Vincent Gallo, I heard from a friend that he once made his sperm available for purchase online for an exorbitant amount of money (six figures if memory serves correct), you know, because he's an incredible specimen of man and ladies should have to pay that much for superior genes. Funny guy.

Just another flick I dont know about, is it interesting or is just controversy around it more interesting than flick itself?

It was a listing that went something along the lines of "never before in the annals of human history has an opportunity to own a piece of optical and electronic technology that is of the finest breeding and from the possession of a specimen of such great character" and so forth. It was a REALLY long listing too. Hysterical because it was sincere.

Maybe this quote captures a bit of the Gallo magic to which Mitch alluded:

"I sold The Brown Bunny camera package because I had organized it so methodically, so precisely, that I couldn't let anyone touch it, scratch it, or break it up. I just had to get it out of my life."

The Girlfriend Experience is now available through your cable VOD service and opens in theaters May 22nd.

Thanks for digging that up. Just as funny today as it was back then.

Nice kit list though!

who works hard to have the own stuff can evaluate what all this means

edit
this is the most funny thou..

"as I have never read a script in my life, including ones to films I've acted in, and ones that I've written and directed"

Amazon On Demand and
XBOX have it available.
Watched it last night from amazon..what a pain that was. Installing their player and just not very user friendly.
Liked the movie though. Way better than Bubble. New crush on Sasha Grey.
I'd love to shoot a movie this way. No real script just an outline and a van full of actors and crew.
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

IMHO, they should offer a high-speed download of a 1080p AVI or MKV for like 5 or 10 bucks. That would be game-changing. Having to mess around with this Amazon Player or On Demand "24 hour rental" nonsense is silly.

Alas, it's been tried, a few thousand times, to the regret of everyone involved. Then again, most of them didn't have $1.6 million. And there may have been more of a script than you suppose for this one.

EDIT: OTOH, there *are* filmmakers who work pretty much exclusively this way. Cassavetes wasn't one of them (contrary to popular belief), but Rob Nilsson might count as an example. The material isn't structureless or haphazard, but I don't believe the scripts are "written" in the usual sense.

These are doomed. The same as iTunes, Netflix and.... whatever.

A dramatic change is needed... and I can already feel it... in the air.
