  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

new RED Pro Program...

Yes, I saw that little screen too. That's what got me thinking that they definitely got these monsters working already, and basically ready for production minus a few tweaks here and there... I mean of course I am talking out of my rear, we only got a single picture, but tell me that thing doesn't look like it came out of a box!

40mm? I think it's a much more popular and useful focal length than 21mm or 120mm.

Panavisions 40 is one of my all time favorites. There is something about the 40 that just feels right and very real. Almost like how eyes see.

Just by looking at the simple elegance of that shot tells me that we have yet to fully appreciate this system and it's potential for so many setups that are compact, sturdy and sleek.

Man, I dislike the Dark Knight DP even more after his recent PROMAX interview...

"Film baby film"... was his answer to preference versus HD and Film... someone send him a link!

Slumdog smoked your ass... shot on digital with 1/10th the budget!

Get a clue!

GO RED!

Thanks Evin.. your posting of the Standard pretty much shows that there really isn't one :)

I know that if I'm stuck on a desert island with 5 lenses, I wouldn't be choosing both an 85 and 100 to be part of that set. Of course there are different standard sets because different makes of lenses have different focal lengths. But there are fairly standard sets for each make of lens, globally.
Yes, Evin uses both an 85 and 100 mm in his set of Zeiss Standards.
But it's a 8 lens set.

Ahhh I think I've got it ... whole setup must be powered by a battery in the REDhandle.
Which then begs the question, if the LCD draws from this same powersource,
why have the REDmote?

And .. another thing, what does it record to?
Does the brain have a slot for a CF card?
or in the REDmote? or the REDHandle?

It's more an emotional argument at this point.

In most of the renders I've seen the recording module is attached to the other side of the camera. Similar to the way it is on the RED One.

Thanks .. think I can even imagine I can see it ... or maybe thats the
strap of a wristwatch! :)

At this point it's a financial and artistic choice. It's a medium. I think everyone should use oil paints instead of water paints...

Besides "Better" is very subjective.

But I digress.

Going back to this.... Any chance of a credit for those of us who already bought the 300mm Pro to bring our complete package in line with that price? I would've glady bought the rest of the set at that time, too.

Just wonderin' :red_bandana:
Good suggestion... I'll sleep on it.

OK, I slept on it... we'll do that. Only seems fair to me.

Thank you, Jim! Can't ask for any more than that.

I imagine the REDmote has more controls in it than the REDhandle (custom controls and whatnot).

These look great - very exciting. I've been shooting with my canon DSLR a bunch lately and this post has me thinking about the throw of the focus rings and how they apply to more still/hand held work. Do you think the longer throw of the cinema lenses will make quick maneuvering difficult? Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled with what's being done here. Just curious as to how it feels as a handheld setup.

All things are subject to change but:

If you want a shorter focus throw, and you do a lot of hand held DSMC work, and zooms will fill the bill for the genres you shoot, then the RED Electronic Lenses (specifically the zooms) announced on December 3, on the "Pick a Lens...or Ten" page of the announcement, would be the ticket - and they'll cover FF35 - something the S35 lenses won't do. They also are listed as featuring auto focus and image stabilization - and they mount onto a smart RED mount. Alternately you can use Canon or Nikon lenses on the DSMC on electronics capable mounts - again, see 12/3 announcement, "Interchangeable and Upgradeable Everything" page, under Mounts.

The new RED Electronic Lens 15-25 zoom render on that page looks great, as I'm sure the other zooms will.
