  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Carrion monitor delivery?

It is about 3 lbs. but has a higher resolution than the 7" Red LCD. If I was doing a lot of hand held though I would chose the lighter monitor.

1dog,

there're two :
http://www.switronix.com/product_details.php?cmd=info&id=202
http://www.switronix.com/product_details.php?cmd=info&id=203

Which one are you talking about ? Or do we have to give them exact measurement from luis head DC jack ?

Would appreciate for more further info. I almost order it from markertek with supply information. But if this is out of the box, i will get this one instead...i just want to make sure that it's a proper cable, else it will fry either the battery plate or the monitor, worse case both.

Thanks a lot for your help

Regards

I also wish he made a lighter box for it, but I guess it also makes it tougher... unfortunately a redesign won't happen when he makes practically no money at all on these. That's the reason why it is so inexpensive... The weight isn't a mounting issue when powered from rail mounted batteries. Noga arms are strong enough if no batteries are mounted on the back of the monitor, that's what I used. For a little added support you can use short arms like Reds or a Z-American arm from Zacuto, though I've tried neither with it.

The screen is great, 1024 x 768, wonderful color, it is bright, not reflective. It was reviewed and considered just as good if not better than the $3,900 BT-LH900A, though no graphics... but with Red you get the traffic lights you need.

$1950 it a phenomenal price, so an all around wonderful monitor when you get one!

I wonder how it would perform in the extreme cold?

Lighter would be cool, but not many are "light" except for the reds. I am kinda talking out of my ass though because I don't know the weight of the nebtek or other comparatives. I know the reds are lighter, from what I've read, because they have all the guts the other monitors do. This is a summation of what I've read, sounds correct, but I didn't verify. As far as the weight of mine, I don't have a battery plate on it because I have it d-tapped into the Red Bat Pak.

I saw it mentioned as a complaint on another thread but right now I don't have time to find exactly where so I just wanted to inform that, Yes, indeed you can configure it so that when it is mounted it can be flipped so the cables are oriented coming off the bottom. I checked on mine and the monitor does have a rotate function.

The one BIG advantage you have over the RED LCD's
(:matrix: direct from the Store info--Res: 1024×600) though is the fact that it can give you this, (if connected through the HDMI):

1280 x 848 resolution, RGB 4:4:4 progressive video display with Surround View,
frame guides and safe action / title overlays, zebra and false color exposure overlays, waveforms, camera status and operation menus:watsup: .

Hey, Luis
Still waiting to hear from you. Ordered in July. Please let me know when we can expect delivery.
Thanks

I read through this thread from the beginning, and from what I can tell, there's a 6 to 8 month wait...

Bought the RED 7" Pro. Absolutely love this monitor. Money is not the issue here as the expense of having to subrent while waiting for a Carrion would far exceed the difference between that and a RED or even a Pana 900. To wait 7-8 months completely negates any "savings" you'd get from the Carrion. Let's not even talk about the wait when you have to get it serviced.

Weight savings, bulk and simplicity along with picture were the main reasons for the RED monitor. I've a Nebtek 7" which I think is an excellent monitor but it has taken a backseat to the RED as I find too bulky for my uses (lots of hand held). I use it now as a client location monitor.

I can't see my self using the carrion box except as a location client monitor. On camera, that's too much monitor for me. Also, why do the cables come out the top? I find the RED's "modularity" which leads to a mess of accessories hanging all over it really makes me strive to keep everything small and tight.

Hey Tim, it is quite easy to see, as you point out, that if you work all the time the Carrion won't be the way to go. But for some that don't work on a day to day basis, or even a less than that, the Carrion can indeed save you money.

I haven't heard of any of them needing service, though I can't say I read every single post on the multiple threads going on in all the forum talking about it. Have you heard of any issues? Of course the prospect of having alone of bad turn around service is a big deterrent for people that work all the time.

The cables concern can be dealt with easily though, as someone pointed out, by mounting upside down and flipping the image which the monitor will do for you. The case does have mounting screws on both he top and bottom.

For turning it upside down its easy. Here's an example:

Also note the Switronix Power Cable. I ordered it from Abel Cine. For those that were asking, just contact Abel and ask for the Switronix power cable for the Carrion.

I didn't know it had image flip. That's cool.

Regarding the costs of subrenting and waiting, even if you work once a month at 7-8 month wait(seems to be the wait for carrion) it's still not worth it. At 100-150/day to rent a Panny 900 or something equivalent you're looking at 800-1200 extra for subrenting once a month. And I didn't even add in the time of reserving, picking up and dropping off. I subrent gear all the time and it's a royal pain. But I sub things I can't buy or don't use often.

My RED monitor goes out a lot. Perhaps 15-20 days / month so obviously it's not worth the wait. But I also bought a Nebtek 70HDS for a location client / director's monitor (as the AC pretty much hogs the RED monitor) and that goes out 3-4 times a month. In two months time it more than makes up the price difference as it rents for 125-140 / day.

Concerning service, virtually all monitors at some point go in for service. Because it's not mentioned doesn't it mean it doesn't happen. I've sent loads of gear in for service - never once did I post the experience.

Very cool monitor mount you got there. How do you like Ultralight (I think that's what it is)?

Thanks, the Ultra light is great for adjusting. You can have it snugged up so it doesn't drop, adjust it how you want it and tighten firmly. Besides being very light.

For a hand held setup though I have to agree, the Red takes it.

So back to on topic, I ordered my monitor (paid in full) in july of last year, any news?

Nick

if someone knows his place, go there and knock. I dont see any point anymore by asking in this thread. It's next to impossible to get hold of him.

If there is anybody in the community who knows Luis, it would be a big service for him to go buy and knock on the door and give us an update. I worry that the endeavor is over for some reason due to the economy.

I hope Luis' is okay. I went to his house as part of DVXUser festivities back last year (July I think) and he was really cool. I saw the area where he was working on Carrions. I wonder what happened...though now I'm glad I didn't order. I know he's part of Fat Monster films, so they'd know if something was up
