  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Carrion monitor delivery?

Let me see if I get this straight, Bruce. You have been to the shop. You know the guy. You know he has ripped off all the people on this forum. You know how pissed everybody is, right here on this forum, people who have been screwed by this guy. Whom you know. And you still spout a whole lot of sympathy for him? You are glad they didn't go bankrupt? Am I getting this right? And then you have the balls to come on here and continue to shoot off your mouth. Are we even of the same species? If you know the guy, do something about this, something meaningful. If you are unable to do that, then at least stay off of this thread.

I'd be OK with it if he just punched him in the balls and walked away.

I replied on this thread because a guy who PM'ed me had a question about HD-SDI being broken and I knew the info to help that person - but his PM box was full.

I mentioned that I felt bad that years ago I had once posted a photo of a bunch of monitor enclosures that I saw at his house.

I mentioned I was glad that he was not bankrupt - he is apparently slowly paying people back. That is better than going bankrupt and not paying anyone back IMHO.

I actually feel so bad that I was planning to contact you guys and send you some of my own money - and then try to contact Luis and get him to pay me back.

I'm not wealthy, don't own a RED, came to the USA with nothing. What little money I have comes on the back of literal 90-hour work weeks doing visual effects. So this was not an easy thing to think about.

But seriously, screw that now. I'm not of the same species as you apparently.

I will do what I can in private but will never post on this thread again. Cheers!

Taken under consideration. But for now I have no idea where he is, haven't seen him for a year or two... and am still at work, hitting hour 15 or so.

Why is it I am the one guy who is honest about actually knowing Luis? Plenty of people on here know Luis - he organized DVXUser events for heavens' sake. They just don't want to get themselves shouted at, like I am being (understandably).

I'll chat privately with folks if I get anything constructive actually happening. Again, please send me an email because every time I try to help on this thread (and for the record, I did just help someone fix his damn monitor) people go nuts.

Can't speak for Rob, but I'm not trying to rake you over the coals, Bruce. When it comes down to it, there's just a lot of people who are angry over this whole ordeal. I can see why you posted to the thread and you had the right answer. All good. Just because you knew Luis and/or where he was at at at one time, people shouldn't be too hard on you. I'm sure you're right and there are plenty of others here that know the guy, or did know him at one time.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go nuts... Or imply that you really should punch someone there... Or maybe I did. ;) Mine was more a pathetic attempt at comic relief than anything else. Then again, I'm not so happy about the situation. I never ordered a Carrion myself, but did recommend it to some people after seeing it at NAB '08. And of those people, a couple of them did buy it, or they paid for one as it may be. And they have busted my balls over it ever since.

peace.

Are you guys sure about that? As far as I've been led to believe there's no attempts of this what so ever. I'm not one of the unlucky ones. I was about to order several of these ones and luckily doubts started before I did. So I've just simply followed this "incident" out of curiosity, but have never seen any attempts of him actually contacting people? I'm only writing this as his website is still up for ordering??? Isn't it about time that people does something about this?

Edit: I'd like to say that I started my business just when recession hit and it wasn't easy, but I survived. I had set backs. Large ones. At worst a production went wrong, to say the least, on me. It through me back with over $500.000 in minus. I still managed to pay people I owed.... Even more honourable from my side, was that I managed to do so without any delays, which I'm very proud of. Point is that if you really try to solve the issues actions are made to do so and it doesn't (to me) seem as if any in this case? I could be wrong.

Look, I appreciate Fredrik's post. I have run my own production company for over 25 years. I have had some very serious setbacks in that time, as most people do given the uncertain nature of the production business. When I had reverses (and I have had serious ones) I paid everybody back. Moreover, I talked to them. I asked them for help and understanding. I admitted that I was up against it and they were all patient (though they were not happy about it). This guy not only does not communicate with those whose money he took, he lies about it and promises that he will. The business is full of these characters, I'm sad to say, people who talk a good game, but don't have the personal honor (and I don't know of any other word) to stand up when things go bad. I have a certain amount of sympathy too for this guy, because I have been in the situation in which I dreaded the phone calls that I knew were coming, but life goes on. I bought the monitor because of what was written on this forum. To some small degree (but only a small degree) I hold the former cheerlearders responsible for boosting it on here for failing to voice any regret or responsibility (like the bozo that produced a video review for it). But I think we should let the subject die, as Nick suggests. I don't think this guy was a preditor, he is just a loser. Let it go.

Safin, you PM'ed me a while back and I tried to respond but your PM box was full. This might help:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?248555-Need-Help-from-Carrion-Users&
"I was able to repair the Carrion monitor myself after talking with a service tech at Digital View, who makes the display boards used in the Carrion. He said it is very rare for an SDI board to fail but that a cable could have come disconnected. I opened up the monitor and saw the cable from the SDI board was loose, reattached it, and the SDI input is working again. The service tech said they had repaired one Carrion monitor before, but was unsure whether they would repair any more. He said they might be able to suggest another repair facility should anyone else need their Carrion serviced."

RE: lack of Carrion monitors / refunds... as someone who posted in the Carrion thread after having seen a bunch of them half-assembled on Luis' desk, I do feel bad. I should have not posted anything. All I can say is that at that point in time, they were there.

I really hope that Viewfactor, Carrion and everyone else eventually ships or pays everyone back. Glad they haven't gone bankrupt. Not easy to run a small startup business and then get hit by a recession (and banks taking away credit, your own investments tanking, etc).

That said, I am making no excuses.

In fact I made monitors myself at one point, but never took any cash unless I had someone's monitor ready to ship.

I have to say, all of the emails from people made my life a living hell (even though I hadn't taken a cent of their money and was working my ass off to get stuff to them for 1/2 the price of anyone else). I got tons of angry emails because I dared to be behind schedule by a few weeks. Then folks from overseas wanted me to order them extra stuff from BHPhoto, get it shipped to me, then ship it on to them along with their monitor, and mark it as a gift so that they didn't have to pay taxes. For no extra compensation for my time. At some point, I realized that I was turning down $75/hr+ design jobs in order to be at FedEx at 3AM just to work on consumer goodwill - I was making something like $10 an hour and incurring the stress of "oh damn it, what if 50 of these things decide to just blow up in the field for some reason and I have a horde of angry people chasing me..." getting out of that "business" was the smartest thing I ever did!

OK deep breath. Anyway, hope this gets resolved. I will attempt to contact Luis. No promises, though, sorry. I have worked 388 hours of overtime this year on my day job and would much rather work on my own film products in my meagre spare time than do this.

BTW I do have several thousand dollars put into (other non-monitor) filmmaking products that I am looking forward to seeing ship (but don't wish to discuss further, sorry). So I do feel the pain on this thread. Fingers crossed for a successful resolution of everything.

If you want, please send me an email (same as my website, but with gmail.com).

You can contact John Reed from Manhattan LCD, they can fix it. My broke again, i took a look at brand, browse the website, buy and install it myself, pretty easy to do. If you are not sure, contact John, he can help you to replace the SDI board in case you find the internal cable is not lose.
