  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Carrion monitor delivery?

I'm stunned and really feel bad for you guys still waiting for your monitor and screwed out of your money. I was one of the lucky ones and honestly the monitor itself continues to be a really great part of my kit - but just about every time I pull it out of the case I start thinking about whether people are still getting the runaround. It's really quite a spectacle (or is that debacle?).

Hope you guys can successfully SEO your way into some firm answers/refunds/deliveries/whatever.

I guess somebody did receive their Carrion monitor from Luis Sinibaldi of Transforensics.

His employer (Fat Monster Films) is refunding the money that purchasers paid for Carrion monitors that were never delivered.

Well, that would include me. How do you know this? Where do I sign up?

I sent the letter, no reply. I don't think they are doing that any more. Personal honor doesn't seem to be an issue with this guy.

Hey everybody, I am one of the guys that got a monitor and it has worked fine until recently (HDSDI inputs do not work any more?). I now seem to need repair of the monitor and wonder if there is any chance at all that would happen since Luis is now known for replying peoples emails or answering phones. Does anyone have any idea where one could find someone that would offer repair services on the Carrion monitor.

Safin, you PM'ed me a while back and I tried to respond but your PM box was full. This might help:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?248555-Need-Help-from-Carrion-Users&
"I was able to repair the Carrion monitor myself after talking with a service tech at Digital View, who makes the display boards used in the Carrion. He said it is very rare for an SDI board to fail but that a cable could have come disconnected. I opened up the monitor and saw the cable from the SDI board was loose, reattached it, and the SDI input is working again. The service tech said they had repaired one Carrion monitor before, but was unsure whether they would repair any more. He said they might be able to suggest another repair facility should anyone else need their Carrion serviced."

RE: lack of Carrion monitors / refunds... as someone who posted in the Carrion thread after having seen a bunch of them half-assembled on Luis' desk, I do feel bad. I should have not posted anything. All I can say is that at that point in time, they were there.

I really hope that Viewfactor, Carrion and everyone else eventually ships or pays everyone back. Glad they haven't gone bankrupt. Not easy to run a small startup business and then get hit by a recession (and banks taking away credit, your own investments tanking, etc).

That said, I am making no excuses.

In fact I made monitors myself at one point, but never took any cash unless I had someone's monitor ready to ship.

I have to say, all of the emails from people made my life a living hell (even though I hadn't taken a cent of their money and was working my ass off to get stuff to them for 1/2 the price of anyone else). I got tons of angry emails because I dared to be behind schedule by a few weeks. Then folks from overseas wanted me to order them extra stuff from BHPhoto, get it shipped to me, then ship it on to them along with their monitor, and mark it as a gift so that they didn't have to pay taxes. For no extra compensation for my time. At some point, I realized that I was turning down $75/hr+ design jobs in order to be at FedEx at 3AM just to work on consumer goodwill - I was making something like $10 an hour and incurring the stress of "oh damn it, what if 50 of these things decide to just blow up in the field for some reason and I have a horde of angry people chasing me..." getting out of that "business" was the smartest thing I ever did!

OK deep breath. Anyway, hope this gets resolved. I will attempt to contact Luis. No promises, though, sorry. I have worked 388 hours of overtime this year on my day job and would much rather work on my own film products in my meagre spare time than do this.

BTW I do have several thousand dollars put into (other non-monitor) filmmaking products that I am looking forward to seeing ship (but don't wish to discuss further, sorry). So I do feel the pain on this thread. Fingers crossed for a successful resolution of everything.

If you want, please send me an email (same as my website, but with gmail.com).

Hi Bruce, thanks a lot for the info! I opened up my monitor and indeed there was a loose cable connected to the SDI board. I reattached it and now the monitor works great again!

I hate this thread. Every time it comes up it pisses me off. That guy is such a dick.
