  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

That pushbutton/lens behavior looks great as far as I can tell. Thanks for posting it!

Is the Canon 85mm 1.8 working on the latest build? Right now I've got no control over it at all. It triggers the gpio if it's enabled when the lens is mounted.

The button/control behavior sounds fine!

Please start shipping!

Amy will be emailing the next group, and I will be finishing shipping to the current group, on Saturday.

Erik, spread the love...
I want a birthday present tomorrow.. (hint, hint....)

An approval is warm & fuzzy, but there's nothing like cold, hard steel in your hands....
where are the deliveries up to?

(from 1dog's old list guesstimate)

Is the Canon 85mm 1.8 working on the latest build? Right now I've got no control over it at all. It triggers the gpio if it's enabled when the lens is mounted.

Minor change in the new RED camera adapter ensures that hot plugging the mount (or camera choosing to reboot the mount) will not trigger the GPIO. Software release 19u ensures that the 85mm/1.8 won't cause the camera to reboot the mount because it is drawing too much current. It will be available for download later today. I will post when it goes up.

I thought we were going to freeze 20 on saturday, but it took a few days to work out the last usability issues and chase a couple of bugs. Particularly the one with th 85mm/1.8... The big feature in this release is a full calibration of the distance scale. We basically read the focus distance out of the lens, and build a curve that allows us to tell ou the focus distance in centimeters. This is only as accurate as the lens, as we don't yet do a correction for the specific lens yet, but it is pretty cool. My whiteboard is about 3M away from the camera, and with three different lenses, of different focal lengths, I am getting distances within 10cm, without any special correction.

I won't be on the boards again until later today, and would appreciate it if the phones stayed quiet today. Debra and I will be testing and shipping. AMy is at the hospital today (remember, be wary of the psych nurse) at her other job. The next wave of emails will go out on wednesday.

I spoke to Curt last night and he expects us to get about 30 Imperos late this week, and about the same number next week. They are building them already, and he just needs to finish a few software issues. There is both good and bad in working with Birger and ViewFacte. The good, we are both perfectionists. The bad, we are both perfectionists.

Video is in preproduction in St Loius of all places. Fortunately I am not needed on set. More mounts out today. Software release today.

What happened to tests with new birger mounts..?
People who have taken delivery supposed to it by now, test results please.

Frame grabs from Canon 16-35mm 2.8 Dolphin shot

Frame grab from Canon 70-200 2.8 Pelican shot

Shot at 4KHD.

These are downrezzed images shot yesterday with both lenses. Been working/shooting not much time but will post some from a shoot today asap. Shooting some customized motorcycles for Harley Davidson this afternoon. Should be nice.

Frazier... What happened to my bikini girls on a warm beach? ;-)

Sorry, there were none around. Had to settle for Dolphins and Pelicans.

Wanted to get a friend of minel to pose with the Harleys this afternoon but she couldn't make it.

Shoot has been moved back till 3 pm, was supposed to start at 2 pm. So I'm loading up my gear now.

Indeed, the quality of the mount is impressive.

Need yet to collimate the mount but otherwise everything works perfectly. If I remember right, at some point there was some talk of software for collimation?

Where can one find the new software, and second, how is the software updated to the mount?

Anything in the works that will display Canon Iris setting? Is there a small bluetooth display we can rig up (or nice app for iphone).

p

For a start, the Iphone SDK doesn't allow direct access to bluetooth. At the very least you would need to jailbreak the device.

Videodisc is sharp

Ok, I'm busted..

Yeah, I am doing the Videos for the Birger Mount under a new show we have created called "Info-Tech".

I got the mount and wireless focus this morning. Did not have a lot of time to work with it, but during the time I did, I was simply amazed. Erik and Curt and team did a fantastic job.

There will most likely be three videos:
Installation
Collimation
Overview
(But not in that order)

Since you guys have been on here so long, I'll also spill a couple more beans. In the next few weeks you can expect videos on equipment from:
Cineform
Element Technica
ViewFactor Studios

I'm also in talks with Arri to feature some of their gear as well. There are a few more companies, but they have not locked yet.. To be honest, we need to get these first 5 out the door before we look into any more.

We have things in place, and are supposed to shoot Thursday.. I will be hosting just as I did for ASLGear's video.

One small problem... As of this evening about three hours ago... I lost my voice (Erik's reading this and saying WTF!?)

Wish me luck that I can get it back in 24 hours!

I am not interested in having my own RED TYPE site... I just want to make the shows. So I will be releasing the videos to any site/company that sells or talks about gear related to what my videos are about.

I have spoken a little to Tonaci about posting on the REDModz site and he seemed quite excited.

Of course I should think you will also see them on the site they pertain too, such as Birger and ET.

I am also doing my best to look into the little details. For instance:
If you have ET's EVF mount, and the Birger mount, you will see a problem with the Antenna not fitting. I have been on the phone with both Birger and Chris at ET and I have a number of solutions which I will show in the video.
