This may just be another example of why it may be a shame if all the theaters are on the road to convert to digital projection. I would think perhaps at least part of the reason that the look was acentuated into a softer look was do to the film out (it no doubt added some nice texture and softened the edge).
There is certainly no question that RED and a film out is a wining combination for many reasons. But isn't it also kind of ironic that RED is contributing to a portion of films demise on one side, while at the same time feeding off of one of its strengths here in this example? Not being overtly negative in that statement, but just an interesting observation...
Looking forward to seeing those results in the theater... with a 'film out', of course!
P.S: and yes, there is always the: RED, to film out, to 2K/4K scan, to digital projection route... but that may be even more ironic...
