  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K Challenge - 72hr RED Film Competition

IMPORTANT! If anyone is having issues uploading to the FTP please Send me a PM so i can give you mailing info for the submissions.

BTW new deadline is asap before friday! We really want to showcase all your films and understand that technical issues and deadlines although usually necessary can be tough. Do your best.

Please let us know what the status of your film is if its still uploading to the FTP. I know this isn't the most efficient way to get large files to us but in the limited time we have until screening we need everyone's help to keep trying to get those files to us asap!

How's Judging coming along?

Hey all,

Just wanted to give you guys an update and let you know how judging is going. In one word, TOUGH!!! We are really debating right now who's submissions are going to be in the top 3 which once decided will point us to our fourth place winner via viewers choice on Vuze. Its not easy when there is so much quality work to choose from. But, we will have a decision for you by tomorrow evening. Thanks again for being patient with us.

Also, thank you to everyone who submitted and is uploading their higher quality films to our FTP for the screening this Saturday! Here are the ones I still do not have,

1. Toast - Publisher - Justin Tipping

2. Love Stains - Publisher - Jason Makowski

3. Raw Meat - Although I have spoken with Jeff and he is battling the Adobe workflow to get us his.

There is still time to get us your submissions before we leave for LA on Friday so is you can, get us those ProRes Files! Contact myself or Darren @ mike@vuze.com mike@4kchallenge.com, darren@r88s.com for ftp info if you did not receive it.

Cool, sounds good guys. I think no matter what the results of the judging, I'm impressed with what everyone was able to come up with. I'm sure many feel like they could have done even better, I know we did. But considering the timeframe and the added complexity of the workflow, I thought the projects came out really good. I think it was a great test to see what can be done in a short period of time with a Red. I loved taking chances, like using the FCP Native workflow. It certainly got my juices flowing and really excited about the possibilities that may be coming down the road.

Best of luck to everyone, and I sincerely enjoyed watching all of the films. I look forward to more of these competitions!

Makeshift Prodigy Concert Excerpt to be screened

More Cool News on the 4K Challenge front.

At the 4K Challenge Screening this Saturday we will be also an excerpt from a Makeshift Prodigy concert that happened late last year. This will be after the Screenings of the shorts to kick off the party afterwards!

Makeshift Prodigy is a 5 piece Indie/Rock band out of Chicago, IL. Their sounds capes resemble a mix of Muse, Radiohead and Sigur Ros, crossed with influences such as U2 and The Beatles. With heart-wrenching emotion and epic-anthemic choruses, Makeshift Prodigy's sound captivates a listener from the first note to the last.

They have given me a lot of goodies including full CD's and posters to give out at the event! So be sure to be there!

UPDATE: I know we said we would be announcing the winners tonight but we have decided to hold off until Saturday. I know, I know, you want to know NOW!!!
First, I must apologize, I had no idea how difficult the judging would be for this competition. I underestimated the time it would take to come to a decision. There are many factors we are taking into account when reviewing your films and want to make sure all 5 judges are in agreement. This is our first run out of the gate and will know better for next time around.

We will be posting the winners here on reduser, Saturday afternoon before the screening at the downtown independent that evening. We will also be announcing our next competition that same day as well as a few other little goodies and surprises that we have in store for you. Rain or shine, count on Saturday afternoon for all the mentioned announcements.

Also, if you are planning on attending the screening, our official time slot is from 10pm - 12am. The downtown Independent has a beer and wine bar for everyone to hang out afterwards and network, etc. They also have a nice roof area that all can relax on after the screening.

Thank you for your patience and we look forward to the screening on Saturday evening and the future competitions. Hope to see some of you there.

It's uploading... I'm willing and praying it to go faster, but I'm only getting about 92KB/s, which is about half of my upload ability, so not sure where the bottleneck is. Hope it finishes in time. :sick:
 
Hey everyone tomorrow is the night! I'm stuck in lay over in Las Vegas (I'm not complaining) for an hour so I figured I'd jump on here and say, Hey! Get Ready! See you all tomorrow!

I want to say thank you again for competing. All of your submissions were great fun to view and judge and you guys made it extremely difficult to choose our winners.

Congrats to all the winners. I feel like writing something cheesy about how we are all winners, because the challenge was so fun. But I would never let myself say something so genuine and nice.
