  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

4K Challenge - 72hr RED Film Competition

I like the tighter time frames. I will never be able to devote 2 weeks to something like this, although I suppose you can spread it out a bit and not necessarily work every day. But, with more time, comes more ambition and most likely we'd use every day we could. So, I like the shorter time frame. I think the more of these we do, the better we'll get at producing quality work in a short time span. But that's just me.

I like the idea of the single script written by a top screenwriter. How often do we have a chance like that? Not a bad thing to put on the reel. Although one of the fun aspects of these competitions is having to write something compelling in a really short amount of time. But if you wanted to mix it up, the script idea would be a way to do it.
 
More time would be great for some things. But I think most of these submissions are relatively low/no-budget and as the time allowances increase I think you will see greater diversity in what gets submitted. Some will have the resources to make full use of the time, others may not. We saw this to some degree with the initial 72-hour competition. My crew and I probably had a total of 33 hours involved in shooting and editing of our initial submission. Technically we had 5 more hours than that, but those hours were wasted on the first day with location issues. I know other teams worked around the clock for the full 3 days and the end results really show, some very nice works were submitted.

Anyway, bring on the music video competition! I've been wanting to shoot a video lately, I guess this is my excuse to do it.

Are there going to be any showings of the flicks?

As of right now nothing is planned but that does not mean it won't change. If you would like to submit a Pro Res version to us shoot me a PM and I will get you the FTP info.
 
so how does one find the 4k challenge projects on Vuze ?
4 projects show up when i seach 4k challenge ..
i can find them if i seach by each title BUT i only know 4 titles ...
any link to just the 4k challenge entry's ??
 
Go to the All Channels list and you'll see 4K Challenge. Also be sure to allow items with mature content to show, or you won't see a couple of the entries in the list.

Make sure you have the Vuze Client application downloaded and open, then you can download all the files from the web site link I just provided.

I'm very happy to inform you that our short film " Libido" (winner of the viewers choice award in the first 4k challenge) will be printed on film next week. A post house offered us this possibility for free.

Hey Mike, Darren... What's the status on the next contest?
 
Right now we are waiting on getting a few more things in place ie new website, new methods of distribution, etc. Vuze will still be our primary but we are considering Vimeo as well for veiwing and uploading. We are trying to take what we learned on this first attempt and make it bigger and better in every way.
Expect a new competition to roll out sometime around May. I will keep everyone posted to any news as things happen to get you prepared for another crazy weekend!
 
Thanks a lot guys. We've done the final cc on Scratch and they will print a copy next week. This is the first time for this post house to print a film from red files, they have a 2k arri laser, we gave them redlog dpx, any suggestion about the LUT to use with the arri laser?
The next 4k challenge will rock like the last one...or more!!
 
Well the hint is soon...but the plans for the primary are still being developed so stay tuned. For the secondary, you should start looking for a original band with an original song. The secondary will be over a 72 hour time frame, the primary will be likely longer.
