Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Which mount??

Which mount??

Excellent news I just placed my order for my Red One and kit 15 minutes ago.

Hi Paul.

So which mount are you going with??

Congratulations on your new camera.

Did the Canon mount solutions that are offered help you to decide to buy now?? Just curious..

I do think that it's in RED's best interest to get the mounts approved for sale with warranties intact and user installable. But hopefully we'll have some good news soon.

Best,
Frazier

Frazier,

When I read Jarred's post I ordered. I also ordered a Nikon mount to get started with a lens or two. Since I have so much Canon glass I will not go overboard.

Thanks it was time to order a few glitches with the online order but Red on the phone said they will take care of it.

Regarding Warranty when switching back and forth between Mounts

Regarding Warranty when switching back and forth between Mounts

It sounds like RED ONE owners who purchase the Birger Canon mount will have to have their mounts installed by a certified party. How will this possibly work if we need to shoot with Canon glass on one job and the produvers demanding Arri or Cooke glass on another? I work for a camera rental house and we are switching mounts frequently on our Arri 35's and even more so on our 16's.

This is a real world situation and shipping our cameras cross country or even across town is not a real world solution... unless we chose to kiss our warranties goodbye?

Lauri - is this correct? - (I had asked to be in line months ago too - but only for the smart mount) I thought they were just delivering dumb mounts.

As I've made an early reservation they sent me an invitation to participate their beta program and I referred to this information.

What comes to the plastic/metal issue, in the email message they said that the final production version will be made of different materials than the beta version. So, perhaps their final version will not be made of plastic?

If Erik gets the Birger mount soon, in my understanding the Birger mount with View Factor knob will be the most professional solution for some time. Wicked circuits is developing their pro mount, but it will not be available for some time.

We'll see, maybe I'll have soon two different Canon mounts, or perhaps Epic X will be there first. Who knows, but having followed this thread for quite a long time have learnt to wait and not raise any expectations.

Become a certified installer yourself?

I see what you mean, it's limiting.... Such a difficult situation. Chocolate mountain to the person who can sort through the mess and make it a world where everyone wins.

BTW Congratulations to the US on new president. May he help bring fortune back...

Just a quick follow up. We will resume shipping on the second work day after the warranty agreement is signed and made public... i.e. if it is signed today we will resume shipping on monday.

Order form will be reposted as soon as:
  • The warranty agreement is in place.
  • Curt confirms long term pricing for the Imperos (I expect this today).
I will announce this on reduser, and on birger.com front page.

Is the warranty agreement is in place ... can we that news ASAP please ... oh, and full details this time

[EDIT : as I'm just about to get the R1 hardware upgrade it would be good to know what is what going forward, ESPECIALLY the Epic upgrade path]

Erik, I'm holding my breath ... you really, truly, mean this? Not sure I can take another go anymore and then much later find myself back in square one once again.

Lauri, does it make you feel any better to know that you are actually the very next person in line? I am not teasing. That would be mean. I am not mean. :w00t:

Just send her the mount today and if the warranty agreement doesn't get worked out give her a refund and pay for the shipping back. No really - think about it - you know it's all going to get worked out. Lauri will feel a lot better when she sees the mount in her hands. And that'll make a lot of other people feel good. :-)

There are many skills and activities in life that require certification. Changing a Birger mount is at the bottom of the required skill/training level compared to almost all other certifications. In the Birger case a training video would easily make anyone with only moderate mechanical aptitude an expert.

I think Lauri is a guy if I remember an earlier discussion.

We have this video in pre-production... scheduled for shooting next week.

Installation instructions, including a timelapse of the process have been available for some time at:

Oops. Lauri, sorry about that man.

No problem, I'm so used to it. When used to live in Chicago I often ended up in funny situations because natives always assumed its a female name. Though, did not found it that funny when had difficulties getting money in the bank from my account just because they suspected I had forged my documents and passport.

I suspect Erik has a good reason why I'm the first one in the line; It was Friday afternoon in November -07 when Erik announced the mount can be ordered. Thus it was already evening in our time. I did not want to frustrate my family by rushing to the office in the weekend to send an order of a device they had no idea about. At that time in their eyes Red One was just a virtual camera living only on some web pages that for some strange reason I felt excited about. So, I faxed my order only the next Monday early in the morning. My guess is that the first batch was sent to those who made the order during the weekend, and due to the time shift I just happened to be the first one who made it on Monday morning.
