  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Please continue to lay off the phones until tomorrow, so we can get some stuff out the door and work through our game plan for the week.

It is now officially "tomorrow." Does that mean your phone lines are fair game?

If anyone's canceling their order, I'm interested in jumping ahead in the queue (and will pay a premium).

sounds like Erik has you covered already.

What Erik says and what happens are not the same thing. My mount, per a discussion with Erik last Wednesday, was supposedly going to ship by last Thursday. Yet, here it is a week later and as far as I can tell the mount has never left the factory. Maybe, just maybe, something came up that prevented Birger from getting the mount to the courier - wedding preparations perhaps. Today though, Birger should have been in regular operation and so they should have been able to ship my mount this afternoon. Hopefully I'll see tracking numbers before tomorrow evening.

Those of you in the second batch, expecting to get your mounts this week... I'd guess it's not likely to happen.

Hopefully Erik will have some out this week. There may be other issues that Erik may have to address and trouble shoot. I am sure it is not as simple as changing the oil in a car. I did flash animation and web building. I can relate on this level, when you have a product that has a certain level of complication, trouble shooting a seemingly little problem can take a lot of time.
As the old saying goes, (and I've had to remind myself of this too), don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Erik can't hire a bunch of people to get them out the door faster or that would drive the price up. He is not getting it made by less expensive laborers in another country like the Red One.
So we wait and keep shooting with what we have.

Geez. . . I just want a mount with wireless focus control knobs.

I just want a mount... for now.

Anybody call Erik? We have to get to him and our mounts before the baby comes. We got nine months... the clock started ticking since this last weekend...

If I understand you correctly, congratulations jason.

Hopefully you didn't mean that there are 9 more months before Erik ships. :)

EDIT: I see I read it wrong. Good point... Jason is it true you've had a red without a lens for 9 months?

No, I think he meant congratulations to Erik and Amy, maybe?

Wow, how is it that a guy can have so many people interested in his personal life, just because he is creating a new lens mount?

Answer: cuz we all want ours now!!! :)

Erik, what stuff went out the door? Where are the tracking numbers? We're more likely to lay off the phones if we get some answers to those questions.

I meant another possible major delay of mounts is Erik having a baby (I mean, Amy having one).

And, no, it's not true I've had my Red without a lens for 9 months.

It's been 7 months.

But I've had the opportunity to shoot with it; just not as frequently as I'd like. Bad planning on my side. But I've never done anything on this level that depended on so many elements and third parties.

The positive side... I'm in the first batch.

Ah, you've bested me on time between camera arrival and Birger. But I think I still hold the record for longest owned camera without ever turning it on; tomorrow marks exactly six months since my camera left the Red loading dock. I've been waiting for the Birger this whole time, unable to afford rental lenses or PL lenses.

I think I can't wait any longer though - I'm going to power up the camera tomorrow. Maybe the Birger mount will arrive shortly after. Gotta think positive thoughts and maybe they will come true...

You can always make a pinhole camera, like I did. At least, it makes you feel like you've got a real camera, instead of a door stop...

I was under the impression that the pinhole method requires extremely long exposure times and makes a lousy picture quality. Maybe I should try it though. Are there any examples of pinhole footage from the RedOne?

Yeah, in my limited example, I couldn't make something useful. I was saying that more in the "fun" category, or the "it-gives-you-the-impression-of-owning-a-camera". I don't think you could really use it in anything else than that...

Here's two link found on youtube, this guy is a member here also:

It gives a sort of old 8mm look to the footage. Although I wasn't able to come with anything close to that... Mine was more like: Oh, it looks like his head... or maybe its a tree?

[THURSDAY ADDENDUM]
I am off to the airport in a few minutes. There should be 25 more tracking numbers out on Tuesday when I return. Any mounts promised for shipment this week that didn't ship, will ship on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week. We have everything we need here.

Posted last Thursday. This Thursday is coming to a close on the east coast. So... may I please have a tracking number? I'm begging you. I really don't ever want to have to look at this thread again.

Geez, Lowkus. . . why didn't you just spring for $500 for a Nikon mount and another $100 for a cheap Nikon lens???? You could have sold both of 'em for about what you paid, and you'd have been able to use your RED for the past six months.

But I have to admit, I'll bet you've got the coolest doorstop in town.

Yeah, you win. That's a long time abstaining.

Be careful when you touch it again for the first time and hit the power button... you just might explode.
