  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red Europe - it's Official.

My problem is that I am booked up until the middle of next year with only 2 weeks off around the scheduled time of delivery for my camera. The project I start end January is to be shot on my Red. If it is shipped from LF to South Africa it could take up to February to be released, depending on SA Customs- which is a bureaucratic nightmare. I've heard of some guys cameras sitting in customs for 3 weeks while the officials try and over charge them. It would be really sweet if I could pick it up and attend a Red Day at the same time and still be back for my Drama Series end January.

I'm not demanding this and don't want to sound difficult, it would be nice though if it could happen this way.

Congratulations guys! This is outstanding commitment to customer support.

And what a great location. I once worked on a BBC project in Chalfont St. Giles and would love to go back someday.

Again, congrats!

It's nice to have a Red headquarter in Europe, but the choice of England is a typical American choice. For your information, England isn't really part of Europe. They don't even have European money. And there are customs problems with England : I often do business with England : problems, problems, problems.

A more clever choice would have been Germany : German people have a way of thinking and working close to the American one, a solid and dynamic cinema industry and they've got the Euro, damn it ! Not to mention their geographical location, right in the middle of Europe. Shipping gear from an island costs more than from the continent.

Sorry for the other forgotten countries (and our English friends...) I love you anyway ! I'm French, by the way...

That's awesome news RED! It's great to know that you will have a European headquarters because I will need it come 2009, assuming President Palin takes office.

I have NEVER had any customs problems and I have NEVER heard of anyone who've had problems with customs when buying from the UK to another country within the EEC (European Economic Community). There's no customs between those countries.

Regarding customs and shipping to/from another member of the European Union (EU) and the UK, there are no customs problems.

EU shipping is as easy as it is within the UK, don't even need to prepare a commercial invoice for Fedex or UPS etc.

Ireland would have been more typical for it. Germans have just too lazy working hours and union regulations for anyone American I believe.

Oh, you probably mean those lazy Germans who won numerous technical awards for their cameras and such ... wait, what was that company's name again ... ARRI or something ... ah, second-breakfast-time ...

seriously, I think Germany would have been an excellent choice for a bunch of reasons: geographically, currency-wise, 3rd party-wsie and of course personally:sarcasm:

But hey, anything that brings RED closer to "home" is a good thing! :calm:

Oh, you probably mean those lazy Germans who won numerous technical awards for their cameras and such

and also 5 weeks of holidays, 35 working hours per week and often no rights to give notice for the employer without major payouts, which hurts any business seriously. Did I forget about very high taxes?

Intelligent choice for a European HQ as this location will benefit Red on more than one level. Pinewood has a long history with making the 007 films, Avid have their offices on the lot & with Epic available soon, the day is getting closer for Bond to be shot on RED. Quantum of Joy!
