  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

That was a full day without a BirgerPost™.

Ideal outcome would be: Birgermount can be purchased through Red, and - like the Nikon mount - will be installed by Red.

No, the ideal outcome would be to allow us to buy the mount from Birger and install the mount ourselves, so that we aren't shelling out for shipping and labor costs to Red. Installing the mount isn't exactly rocket science.

It sounds simple enough, but given the track record of the Birger mount end-user installation so far (is it 0/1 or 0/2?) I can see where Red is coming from...

I'd like to be able to swap the PL and Birger mount depending on the project. Shipping it to Red every time the mount needs to be changed will be impractical.

This is what I was referring to earlier...

CHANGE the placement of the sensor in relationship to the body, so that Red's backfocus collar can be behind the sensor, and have plenty of room for a P+S IMS, AND a Birger mount.

It's too late for the Red One, but I strongly believe this should be incorporated into the Epic while it's still on the drawing board...

Fun fact: I've always been calling it "Birger" with a soft "g" (like Folgers, Germany, etc.), but I'm pretty sure Erik pronounced it with a hard "g" like "burger."

I like that ;-)

P+S Technik wrote that they did it on RED:

Now is about to get Birger on IMS.

Erik sounds very angry on P+S Technik from before.

The situation has got pretty delicate right now.

Then we would need a good mediator.

What about Jorge Diaz-Amador?

Where is he now?

We would need a help urgently!!!

You, can't mount sensor like this.
It has many leads coming out of it and it has to be mounted flat against the back metal to give it good support. The good way would be to have RED focus adjustment going down from 52mm to 42mm or so to cover for all distances. But this will be the Mother of all focus adjustments I have seen.

Sadly,

the IMS is not going to sell as well as it could. And Birger may not either. These are two companies that really needed each other. Since the two of them together provide a COMPLETE solution.

I sent P+S the following Email:

I am a RED Owner, but sadly I cannot and will not purchase your product.

I remember telling you guys at NAB to MAKE SURE you had support for the Birger Mount, but it would seem you have failed in that regard.

You are only 1/2 the solution. And Birger is the other half.. Had the two of your companies worked together, then you would have provided a COMPLETE solution that would have had EVERY SINGLE RED OWNER running to your product.

That's too bad. Good luck anway.

Don't you hate it when companies don't pay attention?

on the P&S technik website there is an instruction manual for installing IMS on the RED. it doesn't appear to be any more intrusive than installing the birger. obviously we have to wait for confirmation on both, but i think it's safe to assume that if birger doesn't void the warranty, neither will the IMS. but the opposite is true too, and then we're screwed on both. Douglas Underdahl may be the savior on this one, so we can adjust iris on AF nikkors at least.

Well done

Have you looked at his pictures closely? Didn’t he also removed the back-focus ring?

nope. the two allen wrench bolts are visible. IMS and birger remove this "barrel" and you're a lot closer to the sensor. look up above at thor's post. look at the left picture. there's a wire hanging out. i'm thinking this might be part of this warranty nightmare. if you watch doug's nikon mount install on you tube, he never takes the back focus ring off. i hope this all works out!!!
