  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hello ,
We already have a V Raptor and we plan to buy 3-4 extra , BUT...
Our V Raptor is still NOT USABLE and wait in the warehouse because it has firmware limitations.
We wait more that 4 months .
We ONLY work with anamorphic lenses and we need different 2X anamorphic modes (from 3K up to 8K), same as RED Gemini..
Please add these features and we WILL BUY additional V Raptors.
Please like this post to get this feature.
Thanks

Out of curiosity is this due to frame rates at these lower resolutions?

V-Raptor at the moment has VV and S35 formats (8K, 7K, and 6K depending on what you're doing) covered rather nicely with 2X, 1.8X, 1.6X, 1.5X, and 1.3X. All suitable for a 4K delivery.

Only thing I can think of is you're looking for high frame rates like 320fps at 3K?

Hello Phil ,

RED Raptor has only one mode for 2X anamorphic S35 lenses - 7K ( 6:5 or 4:3 ) .
Again - only one mode.
No choice .
With max FPS 137.

Our clients want maximum and ask about 200 FPS with Anamorphic 2X lenses ( with Arri Master Anamorphic lenses and Orion Atlas lenses ) .
Again - we will buy extra RED Raptor if we got firmware with more choices for 2X anamorphic lenses .
Now the Raptor is losing out to our Gemini because Gemini has a lower rental cost and more options for anamorphic lenses.

PLEASE ADD 4K, 5K, 6K anamorphic 2X mode ASAP .
We really lose some money ...

Thanks

yea ran into this "issue" as well the other day shooting on anamorphic lenses. Needed 1.8x, could only shoot in 7K or 8K. no other options. Not a huge deal, but I wonder why there arent more options in 5k or 6k

Interesting, in the meanwhile there are workflows to get you there. My personal suggestions would be to use 5K 2:1 with a 6:5 extraction, unsqueeze in the display, which you can do. That will get you 202 fps.

Phil ,

This is a business, not a hobby.

We want make our work without some juggle .

We need instant results in real time.
Just like on DSMC2 cameras....

DSMC3 ( KOMODO ( only 6K ) and RAPTOR ) has limited options for anamorphic lenses.

Due to this limits , our DSMC3 cameras have a low rating from our customers.

How difficult is it to make firmware with these features?

I don't know how long it takes to make a firmware update with these features, but I'm telling you how to produce "instant results" on set if you need to do this today. Meaning you can view an unsqueezed on the monitor to allow for this type of work.

I agree, it's worth a feature request to have expanded formats for higher frame rates like this scenario.

I agree with the original complain. There need to be more anamorphic options!!!! We got a Raptor and online it says it has an s35 mode in 6k. Yet we cannot use an s35 anamorphic lens like the Vazen 1.8x because there is no suitable options on the Raptor. It currently vignettes! (But that option does exist on the Komodo). I guess I'm a little confused why we do not have the same anamorphic options on the Raptor in 6K that we have on the Komodo??? I truly hope that gets added in a firmware update as we thought we could use Raptor and Komodo together with same lenses.

While they may share a lot of interface and design elements, the hardware of these two machines are quite different. So it’s not as easy as just applying the same code, I don’t think.

I do think it’s probably coming—but best to stick w DSMC2, Komodo, or other brands if you need these capabilities today.

The first thing to identify is that 6K on Komodo is a smaller format size than V-Raptor. Like literally an entirely different format:
https://phfx.com/tools/formatCompar...odelB=Komodo+6K&formatB=6K+17:9&focalLengths=

Again, certainly make the feature request, I think it's a good one even, but there are enough tools in V-Raptor to shoot anamorphic anyway you want in the meanwhile.
