  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

How the heck do you know WHAT your iris is set to? If there's a single knob, controlling both focus and iris selected by a switch, where's the indicator for the current f-stop?

Does the information get back to the camera body and show up either on the back panel or the EVF/LCD?

The camera supports Cooke/i and Fuji (broadcast) lens protocols for lens information. Once one of these is fully supported in camera, the information will be displayed in the same way in the EVF, LCD and/or metadata tagged to the frame. I do not know the current status of this feature on the camera.

Excellent news!!

Thanks Erik. Will this also include focus and zoom info going out to metadata, even if you're not controlling the zoom with your mount?

And, in the short term, how do we determine exact iris, assuming these camera features aren't enabled in the next month or so...

Appreciate the info greatly, thanks.

Guys HELP I sent in my order last week and have not heard a thing.. Did I miss this? I was going to just send it in again, but now I find out the offer has passed so I need info on the form I sent last week.. Is there a number to call?

Patience please. We are still processing reservations. I will not lock people out due to the fact that we have not acknowledged reservations. I am (allegedly) a reasonable person...

As the unveiling is not happening today, we have not yet processed all of the reservations, and some have suggested that a one week reservation period was just too short... I will extend the free remote offer until 11:59 PM EST Thursday 6 December.
I just checked the forum for the first time in 3 weeks today. Thank you very much for extending the offer. I got sick of checking for updates with no response about the order form that was due "tomorrow" back in July (jab jab :))

I'll be putting in a reservation tomorrow.

Erik: you really should setup a paypal system so you guys don't have so much paperwork. The fee is exactly the same as most credit cards.(2-3%). It is a hell of a lot less paperwork and you don't have to pay someone to copy people's information off of a fax into a database. Also it is a lot more hands off when it comes to credit card numbers.

Okay, faxed my reservation today for a Canon mount--just under the wire to get the bluetooth!

Now a question for ERIC:

I noticed that the birger canon mount replaces the PL mount. With all of the conversation about PL mount problems, back focus, shimming, and revolutionary fixes etc. Are we really going to be able to take off the PL mount, and put on this mount ourselves? What's the process?--what are the risks? and what is the likelyhood of focus problems?

Also, once it is in place--will we be able to swap it out for a PL mount without taking it to the factory or to a lens specialist?

My plan is to have the Canon mount on for "every day use" as well as smaller projects and switch it back to PL Mount for features on Rented lenses. I would rather not incure a charge every time I want to switch mounts.

Thank you very much and I am quite excited to get this!!!

The original design was mounted with four screws. But whether it will need to collimated or not remains to be seen. Hopefully Gibby et al will have a view on this in a few days..

I have the same plan. So yesterday i called some rental houses to get quotations and had confirmed that they do no rent lenses without cameras. I've only asked for ultra primes.
Elcurado told me this but i didnt trust him....

What a shame. I've been patiently waiting the news, and ignoring the old "Birger Lens Mount" thread. Of course, I mistook this thread for that one, and only got around to noticing the difference today. I would have liked to take advantage of the offer, but, oh well.

Email Erik and ask him nicely - seems like a nice man!

You are not too late!!! Fill and fax! On his sick bed he extended it to end of day today (if you read the whole thread you would see that)

I had the same thought but saw it just yesterday!!!

I thought it was four screws also. But those were the ones holding on a cover shell. It was and is eight screws (or so I'm told) that hold the actuall mounts on the body.

anyone have links to photos/renders? any news from the LART?

just faxed in my order.... yay!

I just burned a DVD with over 400 photos to be sent to Gybby and Sharky for posting.

I imagine that when they get them they will decide what to post and as for when, well I can only imagine how busy they must be trying and process all the footage from all the RED that were at LART.

I trust it will be very soon and I know every one will be very happy of what they will see.

Ciao,
