Birger Lens Mount Reservations

I wanted to go Nikon, but I have no current investment in glass so I went Canon. Waiting for a response on the Faxed order.

Ditto! just e-mailed my order in about a hour ago. from the looks of it you may not get a response for a day or two. Im sure they're backed logged with last minute orders today.

Confirmations for orders received as of Saturday 24 November 23:59 EST have been emailed. I will post in a few hours with another update.:bye2:

Okay, ladies and gents. . .

I just put my order for a Birger/RED mount for the Nikon. I just found about this deal/thing less than 30 minutes before the deadline, and got my order faxed in only seven minutes prior to the deadline.

Now, can someone tell me what I just ordered? What is this mount really going to allow me to do?

(I ordered the $1450 package, by the way.)

Thanks much.

Stephen

This is really funny. Thank you for making my day. I just skimmed your form, is the email address a way of life? :bleh:

Seriously, thanks to all for their orders. We should have confirmations for all some time on monday.

Yeah, I guess you could say that. . .

:-)

I'll bet I was the last one to get in under the gun, too!

BUT, I STILL want to know what the heck I just ordered. . . and, more importantly, why, outside of peer pressure, I ordered it!

Thanks much.

I am keen to see more about this product,

"I have accepted Ken Corben’s invitation to attend LART on 1 December"

Does anyone know what LART is and if they have a website?

Or where info will be available on the unavailing?

Cheers, Adam

Reserved two Canon sets as there is too little info about the exact specs and capabilities to know for sure what they can do. But two control knobs, and remotes hopefully allows independent control of two functions, or a spare backup set if only controlling one.

With the free remote and full refund of deposits possible, it was a no-brainer really. :)

Erik, will you open again the free remote offer? A lot of people didn't know about this deadline. One week is too short, in my humble opinion.

Just my two cents...

The window was very short. Was checking everyday for ages when reservations were first mentioned, and then got too busy to regularly check. Then suddenly it was there with very little time to decide.

However, I think Erik intended the remote offer to reward people having faith in the product and company, sight unseen, before it's public unveiling at LART. But maybe he could extend the deadline until just before the LART feedback is posted - might be a few days.

And Jim did reopen RED One reservations for a short while due to popular demand.

I woke up this morning running a temperature of 101.1. Unfortunately that meant I couldn't fly to LA got LART. The unveiling of the product is going to happen a little differently than planned.

We have three prototypes that we will be sending out into the field this week. Right now all I can say is one is going to the DP of a popular national TV program that has already done some extensive test shots with Canon lenses; and one is going to Steve Gibby and Ken Corben. I will give further details, but all have agreed to give pblic feedback.

More photos and specifications will be released this week.

As the unveiling is not happening today, we have not yet processed all of the reservations, and some have suggested that a one week reservation period was just too short... I will extend the free remote offer until 11:59 PM EST Thursday 6 December.

Reservations have been about 70/30 Canon/Nikon so far. The overall demand has been high enough that we will do what we can to accelerate the release of the Nikon product. At this time we expect to deliver the first Nikon units in early February. We will delay the FourThirds mount until after the Nikon.

Reservations placed in the coming week can expect delivery in mid January for Canon and late February for Nikon.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Erik. But doesn't LART go on tomorrow as well and would it not be possible to get something out there overnight? Whilst I'm sure those you are sending the mounts too will speak about the mount in some form or fashion I was hoping for cold hard facts and tests to be made available to the community. And all those who have already picked up their Red have a vested interest of "being in the know" to the extent that giving out such information on various aspects of the camera has for the most part been slow in coming. I believe one or two prototypes have already gone out to current owners before yet there has yet to be a single bit of footage posted using a Canon or other still lens (To my knowledge at least).

I've put in an order for a Nikon mount so I guess by the time it arrives I'll have a fairly good idea of the mounts success. But I was hoping that after LART we'd have all the facts in place. Just seems a bit of a shame is all.
