Bright Tangerine VIV or Misfit?

Hey Curt, I tried to contact you in many ways many times long time ago, and never get respond. I don't want to discuss our problem here, and I am sure you can see this message. Please at least reply my message. Thank you.

Is there a promo code or something to get the 20% off? I am about to purchase 2 of them...

Hey Maz,

no code, just contact them directly.

Try to contact him using his company's website's contact info., which you can find in his profile here, on Reduser, or on his exceptional video series, for Bright Tangerine products. OTOH, he has always responded promptly to my Reduser emails as well.

BTW, We are very fortunate to have him available here, with a comprehensive knowledge of the BT product line, supplemented by extensive field experience, with a wide variety of gear. An ideal Vendor, for Bright Tangerine's great products.

Thank you very much

Fury

Hi Nick,
His company`s E-mail address is the original mail I contact with him two years ago, and I`ve tried to send E-mail, Reduser message, facebook....,etc. during this year, but never get reply.
At last, I have to search him on public thread. I think he intentionally missed my message, really feel bad.

Tom,

I have seen your messages, and I've responded to each by email. I'm not sure if my messages are getting trapped in SPAM folders or what. I'm as perplexed by this as you are! This technology stuff doesn't always work. ;) I'll try sending again. At least you know it's coming!

Thanks,

Curt

Finally... Anyway, I just sent a mail to :curt@picturethisproductions.net
Please read it and reply to me, thank you.

My best guess would be 15-16mm on Dragon without Vignette. You can use 3 stages now and use a 14mm on Epic MX without any vignetting. I'm sure with 1 or 2 stages you can probably get close to 14mm on Dragon...

I'm looking to purchase a MB for my Dragon. I'm looking at the the BT Viv, Misfit and O'connors O-box. I own a set of Leica-R lenses that I had cine-moded by Duclos Lenses, and will primarily be using these lenses on my MB. I've read mixed reviews about using clip on's with the Leica 80mm adapter rings--that the weight binds the focus gears. I also noticed the Misfit can now be used as a swing away.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well...

...I recently had a little hands on time w/ the camtree mb23, and I was impressed for how much bang there is for the buck.

Throw-Away pricing ($230+S&H) and surprisingly well constructed (especially for the price)

Carbon fiber hood, aluminum, 2 stage, and swing-away:
http://www.amazon.com/CAMTREE-MB-23...8&qid=1448601661&sr=8-1&keywords=camtree+mb23

It does not have a mount for a bottom flag/lip
And the included filter trays are plastic(the only thing that is) for 4x4

However, you can swap those for metal trays like the cheapish ones made by cavision:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/310681-REG/Cavision_MBH4X4M_6_MBH4X4M6_4x4_Metal_Filter.html

Also, 4x4s are adequate for the most small compact primes such as the Contax 2.8 "speeds" (77mm and series 9 filters do).
I suspect they will work for Leica's too (it is stills glass and 4x4 is bigger then 77m/series 9 filters).

Would it stand up to rugged weekly production schedules for years?... I doubt it

But for the price(well under $300) its definately worth checking out (comes w/ custom hardcase too).

Here's a good review of the VIV:

I also got a tip about adding Black Flocked Self-Adhesive Paper to the inside of flags to provider further contrast (reduce internal reflections):
http://www.thorlabs.us/newgrouppage9.cfm?objectgroup_id=190&partnumber=BFP1

BFP1 technical info:

BFP1_Reflectance_IR2_300.gif

Flocked paper is a self-adhesive material made of many fine fibers.
It has a textured, matte-black surface. When viewed at from low angles,
it absorbs virtually 100% of the visible light that strikes it.
The fibers will not shed dust or lint, unlike some velvet and felt materials.
The approximate compressed thickness of the flocked paper is 0.015" (0.381 mm) with the backing and 0.012" (0.305 mm) without the backing.

Image contrast can suffer due to stray light reaching the focal plane of many applications where the light path travels through a tube or other enclosed area.
Applying a flat-black paint to the inside may help, but a textured matte-black surface is a much more effective light trap.

Hey guys, I decided to go with the Bright Tangerine Misfit rig based on several recommendations and am extremely satisfied with it. The build quality is incredible. It's extremely lightweight, well engineered, and sturdy. It can be rigged as either a clamp on system, mounted to rails, and also configured for swing away, making it extremely versatile. I also purchased the black hole, as my lenses breathe a bit when focusing, and it also allows me to use my 138mm circular pola filter. I will say that the 80mm clamp on ring is not ideal for my Leica R lenses, which I had cinemoded by Duclos, because the focus gear binds a bit due to the weight. It works better on some lenses than others, but the lenses just weren't designed to take any addition weight. I opted for the 2 stage matte box because it suits my needs at the moment, but it's great that you can easily configure a 2 stage to a 3 stage on the fly if you decide to buy an additional tray. All in all, it's a great product!

Definitely don't clamp anything onto the Leica lens as there will be stress on them. Use rods if you can.

I just sold a Arri MB20-II and bought a Viv.....couldn't be happier. I like the size and the weight or lack there of is unbelievable. Functionality is a 10 and options/accessories are abundant.

Just wanted to share my experience with the Bright Tangerine Misfit. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, that does just what I need it to do: safely hold my filters. Love how easily the trays slide in and 'lock in.' Super light weight and the Black Hole is a nice accessory for lenses that have different diameters and shapes; Specifically, it works well with my Lomo Anamorphic Square Fronts. Finally, Bright Tangerine has incredible employees who fielded all of my questions and helped me choose the right product.

Hi all, thanks for you notes and recommendations. I'm considering the Misfit as it looks to be very well built and ticks a lot of boxes.

Have you used the GL Optics/Tokina 11-16mm with the Misfit? Obviously you'd need to shoot 5k (S35) at the wide end, but if so, did you encounter vignetting?

The website claims you can use Cooke S4 14mm, but some have suggested you could use a wider focal length.

I have the Misfit.
It is awesome...and very light. That said, while I would pop it easily on any cine package, I'd be a little wary of stills glass like Contax...of which I have a full set. Even with one of the stages removed its just a tad to front heavy for such lenses. They just weren't designed for it. I noticed a bit of focus binding and so I'd probably recommend a version with rods.

How do you use it with a pola. Last time I used one, we couldn't fit a rota pola into it. We had to rotate the entire box which bones you with wide angle.
