EPIC-S is dependent on a few things...

1. EPIC-X finished and shipping most of the orders.

2. The rework of the camera given less electronics and features.

3. Cost saving advantages from a mature assembly process and efficiency of production techniques.

We expect EPIC-S to be in production in Fall of this year. That presupposes no more supply chain surprises.

if i remember correctly it was previously mentioned to be limited to 5k @24, which if you extrapolate that down, should theoretically allow for 120fps, but i'm not sure that's been announced, and there are many variables we don't know about. i'm sure the final specs will be announced before the ordering process begins. just remember it's an epic camera missing the less than absolutely necessary parts, and has some limitations in order to make it affordable for many.

Thanks Jim. I'm sure you will post when good and ready, but it sounds like final features/specs are not 100% locked down (though I'm sure you guys have a clear idea). And this is understandable given all the x-factors with supply, production and the aggressive price point you announced previously - which is subject to change of course.

Either way, thanks so much - I know you guys do your absolute best and your communication with customers still blows me away ...

Hmm...I do remember something like this yeah...scratch that other post. LOL!

30, 36, and 48fps are the ones I use a lot. Maybe we can get it up to 36 or 48?

I'd be ok with at least 60fps at 5K. Somewhere between 70-90fps would be sweet though.

not likely with the "S" model. that's what the X is for.

my understanding is that the S is targeted towards narrative filmmaking (or commercials, television, etc) done at 24fps or as a less expensive B (or A...) camera alternative that matches perfectly with the Epic-X minus some of the extra features enabled with the additional hardware.

EDIT: yeah, nevermind.

Yeah...I just looked at my wallet and it's just shaking its head "no"...

haha, im in the same boat man. i keep wanting to move towards the epic-x but can't do it just yet, and the scarlet is a better option for me than the epic-s right now.

Both logic and previous Reduser speculation says needs to be at least 48fps in 5k, just to accommodate 24fps HDRx -- but beyond that is anyone's guess. My bet is it won't go much higher, since let's be honest guys, at the estimated $12kish price for the brain, doing 5k at any speed would be good. 48fps or 60 fps at 5k would be sensational.

Anyway, I've over-speculated enough for today -- I'm sure Red will post more when it's decided and I'm even more sure it will be a great deal :)

I've been thinking too what REDCODE for Epic-S will be. It's supposed to be half what the X is. I just hope Epic-S REDCODE won't be too low. I would sacrifice lower fps for a higher REDCODE anyday

My bet is 5K at 60fps at REDCODE 6:1. But I could be wrong...

Jim

uh oh, you're making me think about changing my mind again....

i'm not mad... but it's a tough choice. can you comment as to whether the epic-s will be available before scarlets?
