  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - GPU Build REDCINE-X Beta 21

Hey guys,

We've finally pushed out an update. Tons of good fixes and improvements. Check the release notes for a full list. You can find it on red.com/downloads under the Beta tab. As always keep the good feedback coming!

Thanks,
David

Thank you. I have been able to transcode from 5kHD on set in near real time using the Open CL. I will give the updated version a try. It's using my Quadro 4000.

Yes.

Seems to be decklink driver problem.

If I have launched Resolve or Premiere before using RCX I just get black output.

If I launch RCX after a reboot before using an app that uses the decklink, now I get HDMI and SDI output.

and I'm getting 4k/full out at 3840x2160 to the projector from a 5k epic file at 24fps playback, nice!

can you add 4096x2160 mode to decklink output please?
this was added to the driver a little while ago.

Christopher,
Are you hitting this button to turn on SDI output?

Still only really using 32 cores out of 64 when decoding Epic 5k Full, and best performance is if I set the affinity to 16 non-HT'd cores.

I was able to install Beta on my OSX 10.8.5 build. It plays back 4K files at 1/2, reading the files from a non-ssd drive though.
Same result in Windows 7 if not better, 4K @ 1/2, 23fps(23-24 playback).

Huge improvement!

Upgraded from playing 1/8 4K to playing 1/4 4K on a 2012 MP, 3.2 quad core, 24 gb, PCI SSD OS and separate PCI SSD media---AND A STOCK 5770.

GTX680, here I come.

Can this task multiple GPUs? If so, how does it do this? Does it require SLI or Crossfire?

I'm experiencing playback issues. 4K 2:1 from Epic. OpenCL disabled. Red Rocket enabled and Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ output via SDI. Buffering happens at the speed it should. When I begin playback after enough has buffered, the buffer indicator goes backwards/gets smaller as if it's unbuffering frames. Happens at 1/4, 1/2 and Full resolution settings. Basically I cannot playback any clips in their entirety in realtime at all. Running OS X 10.8.5.

Edit: This only happens when I use the Decklink output. If I turn that off I get normal realtime playback without unbuffering.

Mike,

Interesting... I'll take a look at it.

Do note that with SDI output enabled, there are two frame requests for every frame, so it will go a little bit slower. It requests one frame for the viewer, and one frame for the SDI output because they vary in pixel types.

That makes sense, but I would expect that I'd still get real time playback at 1/4 or 1/2. I get faster than real time transcodes with the Rocket which is full debayer anyway, and this playback is with Rocket decoding enabled. Or am I not thinking of this correctly? All the buffering is happening with the video out to Decklink enabled.

How will this affect workflows in Adobe? Right now it seems the redimporter.exe is still cpu bound without a Rocket card. Will Mercury be able to leverage the GPU for encodes or is this something that will work with RedCine?

Adobe will have to take advantage of RED's SDK to add GPU deBayering to their software. This will take place sometime after RED deems GPU-based processing stable enough to exit Beta status. It might be weeks, it might be after the first of the year. We don't know yet.

ok, thanks to Phil for sharing his Dragon R3D frames, I was able to confirm that with my system I can indeed playback 6K dragon footage without a hitch once it buffers into memory first. If I drop the clips and press play it still stutters every second or so and maxes out my Quad-Core CPU.

Redcine also crashed on me twice so far. Not sure how to report any log files.

I saw this question posted not long after the Beta was released... but I can't find it now, I also have the artifact issue with the Beta software... like in this crop of 5k footage:

the same footage looks fine on RCX 20:

quite possibly it's just something we'll have to deal with in the Beta as the kinks are worked out... but if anyone knows of a workaround or fix it'd be nice to know.

I still can't get openexr output to work with the new build, can anyone output to openexr on windows platform ?

I am able to output to openexr on my machine. For reference here are my specs.
