  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - GPU Build REDCINE-X Beta 21

Playback seems to be working beyond awesome, but I seem to be having a problem with openexr batch outputs using this beta build (I'm using monochrome r3d to openexr, resizing to 4096 wide, and zip compression option). The output just is all black each frame(no obvious error). I was able to open the same redcine-x project and do a export on the production version of redcine. I'm on a windows 7 PC, using a nvidia 680. No rush, awesome beta build otherwise.

I'll be looking at the issues people are having with AJA and DeckLink first thing tomorrow morning. And yes, same build as page 1 so far.

Mind sending some system specs along? And which AJA and/or DeckLink cards you're using?

Thanks for swift response, Grant .... hoping to use the system on Ketch's 'Red Dress' shoot tomorrow if poss - trying to get a 4K signal out to a SEIKI UHDTV:

PC System is:

Supermicro X9DA7 MoBo with dual Intel Xeon E5-2667 6C 2.9GHz/8.0GTs/15M/130W
Win 7 Ultimate with 64GB 1600 Mhz RAM
1 x GTX Titan
1 x GTX 690
ATTO SAS HBA connected to 32TB 6GB SAS RAID
Latest Kona 3G with Hi-5 SDI to HDMI
or DeckLink 4K Extreme to 4K SDI to HDMI

Without the K3 or DL 4K, RCX-Pro runs like shit off a shovel ... 1/2 debayer no problemo ... Full debayer it starts to stutter ... but as soon as I install AJA or BMD drivers, RCX-Pro will not even fire up .... the K3 or DL are in a MAGMA PCI Expansion chassis.

Let me know what you want me to try ... happy to work with you to iron out driver issues.

I've run the new build with both a Decklink 4k and a Decklink Duo, no problems and same transcode/playback either way, with a GTX 680 as the GPU

Mother Board.

Will try a 5,1 Mac with K5000 in the morning.

Resolve Live is very cool ... being playing with it all weekend ... only tried it with BMD 2K camera ... works a charm.

What camera are you testing in the morning?
 
i hope this haven't been answered, didn't see it- my rocket doesn't run on this new build. Any new firmware? I only see the Rocket X one? EDIT Forget it, its on the release page not the beta! Thanks and sorry for not doing my homework!
 
Same here. I've getting vertical bars of parts of the image on screen. Only when I'm pushing my resolution, which for me is 1/2 res.

They'll fix it, but your not alone.

Mac Pro (4,1) GTX680

I'm having the exact same issue when I enable OpenCL. It gets worse when using alchemy or clarity. I've got an i7 hackintosh with a gtx 670 and 32 gigs of ram. Everything has always run smoothly and without issue.

Overall I'm floored by the speed. Such an awesome and unexpected upgrade! Thank you guys! Fingers crossed that this is just a minor issue and can get sorted out.

Anyone with a GTX 580 and/or GTX 680 that want to share their experience with these two cards? I'm certain the 580 has more compute power, but RCX might be utilizing 680 differently to achieve better results.
 
Maybe, I just find it odd that I get the same speed using a GTX580 vs a much bigger Titan

The GTX580 is a powerful card for CUDA/ OpenCL. It probably gives you the power you need for what you're doing. Or if your system is coming up short, the GPU is probably not your bottleneck -- meaning that a Titan isn't going to solve the bottleneck and speed you up. We see this a lot with Resolve configurations. People will install 3 or 4 GPUs, but end up with little to no gain and yet they still can't work in real-time for what they're doing. GPU is still only part of the puzzle.

You're right... The GPUs are eating footage too quick and leaving the CPU, HDD, ram far behind.
 
We put a titan in a $2k low end box (E5-1607 - 4core sandy bridge, 32GB ram, SATA HDD) to get a 4k capable system for still image work... I tested it last week with the new RCX beta and it was only marginally faster than the old version of RCX (it was barely able to play a 5k R3D at 1/4 res on a 4k display without studdering, the old version was not quite able to play 1/4 at 4k). The playback itself was smooth on the titan but the buffering operation couldn't keep up, moving the video to a ramdrive (thinking maybe slow hdd) didn't help. On a high end machine (16 core SB, 48GB ram, SAS RAID) I've been able to play 5k r3d's at full res on a 2.5k monitor with the buffering bar barely moving below full, with a Fermi card (Quadro 5000).
 
This really does change things. I was able to transcode a 2:20 clip in 2:45. Insane.
Cannot get it to play back on external monitors via my Decklink HD Extreme 3D+ though. Has anybody been successful with that? Multiple reboots and configuring options havent helped.
Regardless, this is spectacular.
 
Playback is great but has anyone noticed if you apply Alchemy or Saturation the image has some rather major color distortions. Anyone else getting this?
 
Can anyone imagine RCX on one of those new Panasonic 4k 20" tablets? ;) The First one might not be powerful enough (1.8Ghz Core i5 with Geforce GT745M) but they have already a more powerful pro-version in the works for 2014.

Output should be 100% the same vs. an older version of RCX software decode/export. Just faster. :)

I was just able to test this theory out and it is not the case. The difference is magnified especially if you turn up the sharpness settings, there is a fixed pattern grid type of pattern that results from the GPU accelerated version.
this artifact is noticeable also in slightly out of focus regions of the image, not just the super sharp stuff that I like to shoot.
