  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - Dragon Epic and Scarlet Firmware V5.1.14 BETA

loving how organized and simple the menu system is. The only thing I'm missing is that theres no more quite record mode for the fan. Any chance we can get it back?

rack focus - works great with Nikon lenses. It's really cool to have all these great new features added to my camera, you're spoiling me as far as my expectations for customer service... other companies are going to have a tough time measuring up.

And lower compression as well, as low as 4:1 on 4k WS @ 24fps. Thanks for squeezing more out guys, it's awesome. And just in time for a project I have as well!

Hi William,

The beta documentation lists 5:1 as the lowest compression ratio for 4K WS @ 24fps on Scarlet MX. Are you managing to squeeze out 4:1 in actuality? That's pretty awesome.

works great for me so far....the lock up issue with the sigma 18-35 is gone...

I love the new border "warning tape" to the Media menu. Good for folks who are new to the camera or renters for sure.

UPDATE: It only greyed out the menu options directly after the upgrade with the same redmag connected. I shutdown the cam and disconnected the redmag; turned camera back on and now I have full access to the menus. BETA!!!!

anyone else having an issue accessing the menu options from the redmote? I don't have a red touch screen. i can change most settings through my redmote but would love to access the full menu settings.

Awesome Update I didn't bother reading this whole thread before installing it on my Scarlet and the options for widescreen and more frame rates to choose from made my day! Love the work you all put into these firmware builds, keep up the amazingly awesome work.

I'm on a shoot and have a thing against beta-builds, but damn. DAaaammmnnn.... 4kWS with 5:1 on Scarlet? Oh man... is 4.5k in the works? So hot... Want to touch the heinie.

Can't wait.

Save your key settings out and write them to a card. Always keep that file on your computer. Firmware updates currently wipe the board clean. However, you can upload those keys very easily from a REDMAG.

Yep. Good advice. I also keep a usb dongle in the case with the latest firmware, a copy of the presets & a recent black shade calibration. Saves time in a pinch when you don't have a computer handy. Have actually used a random laptop at a location to load the firmware this way.

still playing with it. i noticed my scarlet was noticeably warmer upon applying the beta update. noticed by default that the fan is set to adaptive mode. I set that bad boy to auto and it made a big difference in temp.
A warm camera is not a bad thing, stable temp is important & black shading should be done at full operating temperature. If your not shooting sound, Adaptive is the way to go.

There's a lot to like here. A question: why were the manual and quiet record fan settings removed? They both seemed to me to offer the best way to keep the camera quiet doing recording, while controlling the temp between takes. Especially if you have not opted for the new fans.
