  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Rehoused Nikon AIs or Leica group buy

Hi,

I consider rehousing my Nikon AIs set or getting a rehoused set of Leica lenses. And after successfully organizing the group buy of the ProLine T2000 steadicam here on reduser, I thought about making an other group buy for lenses, if there's enough interest.

I though about rehousing the following Nikon AIs lenses... please write me, if you're interested in a group buy or your suggestions as to which lenses should be rehoused.

20mm f2.8
28mm f2.8
35mm f2
50mm f1.4
85mm f2
105mm f2.5
135mm f2.8
180mm f2.8

Cheers
David

have sent my set of 9 lenses to china, paid 180 euros for shipping via ems. this was a month before.
the lenses have been hanging around three weeks at e chinese customs, and today nan wrote, they can't be imported, because the customs does not allow such a large number of lenses.
they will ship them back to me. hopefully they arrive well.
until now i have thrown 180 euros in the toilet. no idea how a lens rehousing can take place, when no import to china is possible.

very sorry about that.

Ouch!

Nan is the only Chinese company I'm in contact with. Anyway, many would not rehouse their own lenses (I for example don't own Leica lenses), so the lens manufacturer could purchase them in a bulk to rehouse them.

Also, if many of us would send Nan lenses to rehouse, I would try to figure out a solution with the customs.

Damn, I guess VD is out of the running. Good luck!

I sent my set of three Leica Summiluxes off to V D for a rehouse and paid 75% up front. Christopher estimated 90 days to complete the work. They've had them for 5 months now and haven't responded to my last query on ETA. I'm sure they're going to be awesome when they arrive but thought I should warn you guys about their turn around.

Can a deal be struck with Eastern Enterprises who do very good work or TLS ?

I'm in contact with David Cox from Eastern Enterprises. I also sent TLS a mail. I think they didn't understood what we are planing (they wrote that they don't want to buy lenses?) and didn't replied to my next mail.

the 19mm Leica R rehouse on their site is sweet!

I think that the Leica R rehouse makes sense because the optics and mechanics are far superior to the majority of nikon lenses, so I am not sure rehousing nikon sets makes a lot of sense.

Wow great set. Van Diemen seems to offer the best quality, but it seems to take quite some time to get your lenses rehoused. I'll send you a pm with some more info on an other lens manufacturer, who will do Leica rehouses soon.

I start my set 1 year ago now : 24 mm , 35 mm 2.0, 50 mm 2.0, 90 mm 2.0, 135 mm looking for a 19 mm, 80 mm 1.4, 60 mm macro. Don't know about leitax, there is some leica r mount :

Who use it ?
Jaime

I use Leitax on my set (19,24,35,50,90,135) and find it really solid and It feels like a part of the lens.
It's nice to be able to use other canon lenses without changeing mounts..

AFAIK I'd be very carefull with Van Diemen. Christopher has quiet a history. Maybe ask True Lens Service about him. The wireform design is actually from the TLS guys (who used to work for Van Diemen before Van Diemen went bankrupt and started TLS)

TLS never responded to my second mail with details about the project.... maybe I should call them.

Van Diemen seems not to be perfect partner for the group buy. Even though the lenses are great, I doubt that they would ship them before 2015. I sent them my Nikon AI-S set more than a month ago for servicing, and haven't even got a quote back.

One thing I'm trying to figure out in this thread is why are you all trying to get lenses that already have manual focus rehoused? I would think modern AF lenses that perform better optically would be a better candidate for a rehousing than old designs from nikon.

I am looking into purchasing / rehousing the following lenses

nikon 24mm 1.4
sigma 35mm 1.4
sigma 50mm 1.4
sigma 85mm 1.4

Old lenses often have a certain look that's desirable. If not rehoused, they tend to have technical issues.

Here is a picture of the first DEMO-version of Leica-R`s from GL :)
I think they look amazing!

Option of interchangable version (EF and PL)
77mm filter threads

Hope we can get a group buy on these.. :)
