Sunset Summertime: It's not on Fiji Islands but it's in Austria.
Dragon is still underwater waiting to jump out in the air when it's ready.
So watch your favourite sunset and maybe it could come pretty soon flying over the sun!!!!!!!!!
Shot on unknown 7K Dragon camera!!!!!

Or.... Dragon is going to be a big disappointment.

Remember J.J. touting 20 stops of DR? That quickly got dumbed down to 13+3 stops.
My guess is that they're having (or had) problems with the new sensor.

Gonna pass the hype bandwagon on this one and wait for some footage. :) Bring it on

Thats not how I remember it. The chart was posted but the 20 stops was never quoted by RED. The media and users here interpreted that as 20 stops because they didn't know how to read the chart. Jarred quickly replied with the most likely +3 stops. You're making a lot of unfounded assumptions.

Hey guys, I'm going to update you on my Dragon situation!

I still don't have one and I don't know when I will get one. There, that's the update.

Anyway, I'm just waiting patiently for Dragon, it will get here when it gets here. Now, as for that projector, GIVE IT TO ME NOW! :) hehehe.

Then why was the chart posted at all?

Hype.
Media attention.

A lot of people assumed Dragon could do 20 stops based on that chart, and there was no reason not to.
Why wasn't Jarred's +3 stops post on the front page?

I'll bet they're surprise us with an 8k sensor - upgrade an additional $3k tacked on the $10k. The whole 6k sensor was a ruse to throw off sony, arri etc. Wishful musing I know.

But that's not how you read stops. Just because you see 20 lines on a chart doesn't mean 20 stops. You don't include the first and last value. That chart says 18 stops too me. And then after getting a cleaner response from the sensor you are looking closer to 16.

Plus, if memory serves they weren't through tweaking the sensor when that chart was posted. I think Roger has just provided the answer as to why there's no news coming from RED... everyone (well, not everyone '-) will take any bits of information and treat it like it was hype or something instead of just being appreciative of learning where they (we) are in the process.

All i'm saying is keep your feet on the ground. Reading through some of these comments it's as if we're about to witness the second coming of christ.
But chances are it's going to be a normal upgrade in terms of technological advancement. 16 stops isn't that special. 6k ain't a big improvement over 5k. Clean iso 2000 is 'meh' these days.

I want Dragon to succeed as much as everyone else. ;)

Yeah because there are a ton of other camera that do 2000iso clean, 6k and 16.5 stops of dr. For a 9500 upgrade charge.

But when you combined 16+ stops, 6k and a clean 2000 ISO into something I can afford, (plus RAW, but that's a known) it is something I can get hyped about.

I am a Scarlet owner, and the Scarlet X to Scarlet Dragon upgrade path is huge for me. It brings the 4K to 5K, increases my frame rate to triple, plus the 2000 clean ISO. My personal taste is the highest dynamic range I can get. I see it as a huge improvement. Not as big if you are an Epic owner, but for a little guy like me, it is something exciting. I will have a camera more than capable of anything I will do with it. For a "low end" professional camera, it sounds pretty amazing.

Bottom line is we're in July and NAB was in April, where we all thought Dragon's release was imminent. There's a lot of people that have blindly decided to upgrade to Dragon, and that's fine. However, there's a bunch of folks who are still trying to ascertain whether Dragon is the correct upgrade path for them or not, and until Dragon gets released and IQ tests are published they won't make a move, and that's also fine; there is no correct stand here, it's what works for you.

The waiting is leaving plenty of room for assumptions, though, and some people are writing about stuff they have no idea about; go and shoot instead, your Scarlet or Epic are still great cameras.

I don't know a single camera with these spcs....6k is pretty much still camera territory....16+ stops DR are unheard of with still cameras...especially at 2000 ISO....the d800 is more or less 8k with maybe 9 stops DR at 2000 ISO...yes there are phase backs with higher pixel count but none go up that high in terms of ISO or DR.....and those cost more then epic and shoot stills at 1 frame every 1.5 sec....
afaik Alexa does not have 16 stops and isn't close in resolution....
so 6k with 16 stops at 2000iso is pretty exciting to me.....and I honestly can't wait to see it....I just wish it would come!

I agree with everything you said but I mean really? No offense, but of course I'm gonna go shoot I don't need some one to tell me how great my investment is. I'm not sitting here letting $50k+ go to waste. LoL...I'm very cranky today. 15 hour day yesterday that left much equipment broke and/or lost. I love my Epic, hated my scarlet, way too excited for Dragon to just take a neutrual stance.

I think we have at least another few months. That may even be optimistic.

welcome to the twilight zone.. where days are weeks, weeks are months, and years are.. what major red releases are measured in .. sony should release an announcement about their soon to be released camera with 21stop of DR.. then go figure out how to build it while we wait for Dragon updates..
