  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- Scarlet Upgrade Program

OK I need to stop because I am coming from someone who works in NYC. Honestly 10k is a give and take around here.
*Yawn* I'm not going to get into a pissing contest on how much money each of us has saved away. But a $10k purchase can be tricky. Even if you are making 6 figures that's $10k per month. Next month you might have $10k sitting around. By July at that rate you might have $40k in cash. I could probably come up with $100k in cash in 3-4 weeks but 3-4 days for $10k can kind of be tricky sometimes. I'm not going to have my dragon upgrade money sitting in cash doing jack shit, I'm going to have it sitting in an index fund and make a few hundred bucks in the mean time--that's why companies pay late and want large deposits for orders, they're parking your money in the markets to eek out a few %. I heard an airline accountant once talking about how they made significantly more on pre-paid airline tickets than on the actual flights. But even if you are just parking money in index funds that's a day to sell, 3-4 days to transfer to a checking account and another 2 days to wire. Obviously you could just charge to a card and pay at the end of the month--but that's not an option for everyone for various reasons. I've also seen production companies out $100k temporarily for the 50-Net on a production. In a week you might get the check and you might be booking $1m a year easy but get hit in a trough, it happens. And as you say hitting 0 isn't a good idea. Even if you have $18k in reserve cash ready to go at a moment's notice, maybe you don't want to ever have less than $10k in cash on hand. Your view is pretty narrow and ignoring a number of ways that an 'easy' purchase could still be short on cash.

Congrats, you are super awesome with money. Shall we start comparing penis size next?

The point here was the 5 day limit, and Brent has addressed it in a concise and fair manner.

Lets move on.

First in for exchange for Scarlet to Epic through RED Europe, dropped my Scarlet off this morning, can't wait until my new baby arrives :-)

My Scarlet is posted and on its way back to Red Europe. Must be amongst the first, given the time stamp etc.

OK so if you have money in index funds, mutual funds, day trade or whatever you can always pull out the money if needed. When I called RED to agree to the trade-in I was under the impression I would have to pay immediately. I guess other people didn't. End of story.

Ha! Coming from someone in Dubai where people define the term Gaudi.

When you send the Scarlet to be updated for an Epic X, can someone confirm if the side SSD and Lens Mount must be removed? I may be incorrect on this concern, but my issue is if taken off the lens mount myself and then installing it on the Epic might bring some calibration issues and/or back focus issues - Am I misguided here?

Changing the lens mount is ridiculously easy and fast. Back focus adjustments if needed are not on the mount. There is a tiny screw the adjusts the sensor distance on the top of the brain.

Yes you have to remove your Lens Mount and Side SSD. I'm, not 100% sure but re-installing your lens mount shouldn't mess with your back focus. If you remove the lens mount you'll see it doesn't really connect to the sensor (which is further in the body). Its a rather simple process.

I dont want to dig through 110 pages of posts on this thread, so how are people who originally bought a kit scarlet that did not ship with a front body cap dealing with shipping back to RED? Are you ordering the part and waiting to ship or sending back with a homemade cover?

I ordered the cap a couple of weeks ago which timed perfectly because my Scarlet got shipped out today.

I shipped my scarlet when the day the announcement started. I talked to Alan about it, and he said I could ship it with cardboard and 2" gaffe tape securing covering as long as there was padding filling the gaps of your case to prevent movement.

Use your damned credit card.
