Musings About the Group Buy

Musings About the Group Buy

OK - as I get ready to place my order, I am musing on some things I can't quite figure out... any info and thoughts are welcome...

The cost difference between the wireless bundle and the handheld bundle is about $800, which would suggest the wireless controller costs about $600+. The controller I'd really like to have (I think) is the iPhone version which, according to one of the videos, is also going to be about $600 - before discount. But, that one isn't available yet. I guess I could buy the Handheld (wireless ready) version now and get the wireless iPhone unit later - and pay full price on that... ?? Meanwhile, if I buy the wireless unit now, I can't imagine there will be an after market for almost new wireless units alone (without the whole kit) for awhile so if I buy the wireless unit, I will probably end up keeping it, too. And who knows when the iPhone unit will be ready. Arghhh...

And, with the iPhone version, I'd probably consider springing for the MicroTape Rangefinder - for $300 off full price with the discount - but it seems less helpful with the regular wireless controller.

I also want the Handwheel Controller but it also isn't available yet. And no clue on the pricing or availability. It would be nice to get a discount on that, but...

So I am trying to figure out what bundle now gets me where I want to be for the best price overall... No bad choices, I just hate wasting money.

I'm going to have to back out, unfortunately I was under the impression when we first signed up that we would be putting down just a deposit and then when it was ready to ship then we would be charged the remaining balance. So that we could place the order and still have some time to get the funds together.

But that is the case. Deposit now, balance later.

UPDATE:

Only 25 of the required 50 have paid their deposit so far. We need the other 25 people to pay their deposits ASAP for the buy to clear the minimum.

If you haven't already done so, please pay your deposit at your earliest convenience. Thank you!

I am one of the laggards but, to be clear, I am intending to honor my promise. My delay has been deliberate for a couple of reasons. One, I am hoping to get all the quirkiness that I have been reading about ironed out of the system; pricing of different items seems a little inconsistent, payment issues about credit cards, etc. I have also wanted to be near the end of the delivery schedule since I had originally planned on the 12 week delivery time frame.

Also, as I posted earlier, deciding what to buy, based on also wanting some of the items that aren't yet available, is causing me to have to consider my options. It's never easy. :-)

Am I to assume that if the minimum 50 participants is not reached that the whole deal falls apart and we simply get our deposits returned?

+1!

they charge your card in full, and while it goes off in a couple days, if you don't have the balance on there it gets declined.

There's no charge. It's just an authorization. It doesn't affect your credit card balance in any way. You will not see it on your statement. This has been explained in this thread before. It's like when you stay at a hotel or rent a car. They run an authorization to make sure your card can accept the charge if it becomes necessary to charge you something when you check-out or return the car.

I placed my order, but don't see the $250 deposit charged or authorized on my credit card, and never did. The authorization for the full amount was there the other day as expected, but is now gone, also as expected.

Not my issue as I use Amex, but does that keep it from getting decline, though?

I agree. Instead of directing us to Andrew Lee, these concerns about pricing inconsistencies should be addressed publicly to alleviate anyone's concerns about what's happening with the pricing. Some people may have been turned off by the pricing inconsistencies and lack of response regarding the handwheel and iPhone remote.

Regarding pricing, specifically I'm referring to the 3-cable bundle price at $177, but if you buy them separately they are only $170.50. Not much of a difference, but shouldn't the bundle be less expensive than buying the cables separately? And if/since they should, I'd like to change my order to get that lower price.

Works the same as any credit card. It's just an authorization for the full amount now, not an actual charge. If you're getting declined then call Amex to find out why and they could probably let it go through.

Guys, the on-forum public contact for questions regarding the product, pricing etc. is Loren.

The private contact at RR is Andrew Lee.

The questions being asked should be answered by one of these two contacts as they are in-the-know regarding everything RR related.

As far as the hand wheel and iOS device, I've made it clear from the beginning, these are not part of the group buy because they are not available yet.

If there is a pricing inconsistency, it's something that I'm not aware of since I have not ordered mine yet because I am on location right now.

Please feel free to email Andrew Lee or to PM Loren if you have any more pressing questions that need to be answered.

At the end of the day, the pricing will be correct no matter what. I assure you all of this. RR has been around for a long time. Buy with confidence and enjoy your microRemote at this special price.

Thank you all for your patience.
