  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW GROUP BUY: MICROREMOTE WIRELESS FOLLOW FOCUS

Clayton,

I have not tested that particular lens, but as stated our motor is rated at .6Nm. We are also compatible with the beefier digital motors offered by Heden if need be, but I have not come across a lens we haven't been able to calibrate. Canon Cinema Zooms, Angenieux 16-42, CP.2's, so if it has similar resistance you should be all set.

Regarding the sonar range finder. It's another tool in your arsenal, some AC's swear by sonar based rangefinders for their work and wont go without one, but others just reference them when it's convenient for the shot. It's got a double-sided dimmable display, so as long as you can see the camera, you can see the rangefinder.

Hey Loren, If were to buy the fingerwheel bundle right now is the receiver the same as the one that comes with the wireless bundle and could I just buy a wireless focus controller later, or would I need a different receiver? Also what is the price of the focus controller by itself?

Tehben,

You can do exactly that. We've designed the system to have some upward mobility. So those who are running around operating by themselves right now, can always add the wireless focus controller later. All you do is turn on the wireless controller, and the basestation will automatically recognize it. Just make sure you get the handheld bundle, not the ENG bundle.

I'm not sure about the pricing of the standalone wireless controller right now, as we aren't officially offering them by themselves because we're building the bundles as fast as we can as is.

Loren, is it possible to get the Handheld bundle with the new universal clamp for the fingerwheel?

So if we got just the fingerwheel package, when we updated to the iOS wireless system, would we also receive a reduction on that as well, or is this reduction just for the current bundles?
Sorry, if this has already been asked.

Pretty sure it's just for what you can order now, although there has been talk that we'll be able to add a remote start/stop cable to our order when it becomes available.

Has anybody gone for the Rangefinder? Thoughts? :-)

I own one and it works great. Perfect for walk-and-talk type shots and people on green screen. 30 hours of runtime on a 9V battery.

Like any tool, you have to understand how it works and be aware of what it is telling you. It always shows the distance to the closest thing, which is sometimes the actor's hands, sometimes the boom. If you know what you are doing and when to second-guess it, it is an amazing tool.

Thanks very much for taking time to comment.

As for the iPhone thing, my only question is why?

I know it looks cool and uses amazing technology, but real focus pullers don't want to be that far removed from the lens and the scene. Most of the time when I pull focus wirelessly, I am close enough to the camera to see the marks on the lens. Wireless gives me the flexibility to position myself where I need to be, but that rarely means I need a screen to help me. I'm sure the iPhone software will show depth of field, but any AC worth hiring has that in their head.

Although the iPhone interface looks like a great technological toy, I wouldn't base my purchase decision on its availability.

Hold on... ...wait ...oops ...sorry about that last take, I got a text message and lost focus.

Second that question. No option under the dropdown menu at the moment.

Tehben,

By adding the Collins Clamp to your order, you will have a Universal Fingerwheel. The fingerwheel in the Handheld Bundle is the newer design which is compatible with the Collins Clamp.

Terry,

That is correct. And if you would like to add the run/stop cable to your order, please email the orders team (orders@redrockmicro.com) with your sales order number and tell them so. They will gladly add the cable to your order, it is just not up in the catalog yet, but I can confirm we've got them and I was actually using one Monday:001_cool:

Hold on, it's dimmable? I missed that in the instructions. I was getting ready to tape ND over the display like an idiot. Please tell me how to dim it.

Brent,

You didn't miss it. The microTape, like the rest of the microRemote system, is field upgradeable so we can keep improving the tools as we get more and more feedback. We had a few requests to be able to dim the readout of the microTape, so we added that to the newest firmware.

I will PM you with the details.

As for the iPhone thing, my only question is why?

The iPhone offers a lot of great functions. A remote readout of your microTape, lens information readout, digital marks so you can quickly add and remove marks with the touch of a finger and not fuss around with a marker. The depth of field is definitely a learning tool, and yes a seasoned AC will probably ignore it.

But say you're doing a long steadicam shot down a narrow hall way, and you can't be next to the camera or even at a proper viewing angle to see the barrel. I definitely see its value there. It's just another tool for the arsenal. We also highly suggest airplane mode or an iPod touch haha

Thanks for your replies Loren, however do you have a list of which cables you actually have and how much they cost that we can see?

Hi Loren! The Red run/stop cable isn't already in the "cable" package for the group buy?

Thanks!
