I have only had this system for 2 days as a rental from
Dan and I am BLOWN AWAY! I can't wait to put it to the big test this weekend on a larger shoot.

The system has ZERO setup , compared The Cube, it's pretty much plug and play!

In the process of testing both the Paralinx Arrow and Paralinx Arrow plus and I am finding at around 35ft I just begin to see image degradation that slowly becomes worse untill it drops out around 150ft. The degradation looks like MPEG block compression. Viewing on a small handheld monitor this blockiness is hard to spot. On a 17" Field monitor the artifacting is clearly visible. We are testing in Australia which has its own Radio spectrum allocation although 5ghz is set aside for WiFi and portable phones but this may be a unique Australian issue? At what point are USA users beginning to see image degradation assuming you are judging from a large monitor? Also very interested if any Australian users are seeing similar issues and at what distance?

PS We still love the Paralinx and nothing beats it cost/performance ratio

Just one other question, Jason -- I emailed SmallHD about the USB amperage and unfortunately it's still 1 amp in the AC7 just like the DP6. They say the 2a USB isn't very common. Interested to hear as you use it more how much you feel the range is compromised by under powering it.

A great option is the Mophie Juicepack or one of the hypershop juice packs that's gives 2.1a.

we are working with SmallHD to make sure the special paralinx support piece they are working on has a full 2A capability.

DP6 was actually only 500ma. I believe AC7 is 1A. 500ma is .5a just an FYI.

I velcro'd one of these to the back of my DP6.

I left one canon battery port open to power the DP6 and put velcro around the other one and on this battery. The battery has a 2A USB out and powered the Paralinx all day. The battery has a convenient on/off button so we powered it down during company moves. I bought 2 of them which can easily continuously power the Paralinx. It also has a battery remaining display.

In regards to our tests with the Paralinx Arrow Plus system we were initially were not seeing the performance we hoped. We spoke with Dan who gave us advice on our setups and we were able to triple our range. We will have a full review up on the ACS Website and FXGuide Blog first thing next week. I'll post the links when they come in.

I'd definately like to hear more about this !

Btw, the multicast is fantastic :)

Dan,

Thanks for creating such a ground breaking tool. The complete Paralinx review can also be seen in full HD on the ACS Vimeo site. There are some handy hints for optimising performance in the review. I am looking forward to seeing more developments from Paralinx.

Very nice review. I did not know that at 30hz it works better. Very interesting. And Dan, does it really work better in a horizontal orientation? Everything I allways was taught about RF is to keep the antennae vertical.

i just wanted to offer one humble correction: in the video it's said that the delay is 1 frame. In reality, the specs list the delay at 2ms. 1 frame is about 40ms. So it really is a negligible delay. You will get more delay from the camera processing the picture output to the HDMI connector.

@Daniel - We have had great results running at 60hz and 30hz both here - also 24hz - but that doesn't work with all SDI cross converters.

Regarding Antenna orientation - either Flat with the ends pointing towards each other or with both receiver and transmitter oriented vertically with the faces pointing towards each other will be optimal.

Will make some pictures to illustrate optimal orientations - should have done that for the FAQ already but I get hammered (hahaha - with questions and information) every day.

Best,

Dan

I received my PLUS units last week and had a question regarding power, I can't believe how fast the support team responded to my email.
The Paralinx team ROCKS and their products are super solid.

I also received my Arrow plus 3 a few weeks ago. I must say that we are very happy with it so far.
Also a big thanks to Dan and his team. The customer care is top notch. You ask a question and boom there comes the answer.
That's the way you run a good business today.
We are really looking forward to the NAB. Small HD and Paralinx joining forces. This is killer...

Best
Tim
