  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Checking interest for 4k Skyworth LED TV Group Buy

Yeah, I saw his post after I posted.

People with 110v power need to make sure they don't plug this straight into the wall. A step down convertor will work, but I would check some reviews and see if the particular model you are looking for is noisy. Sometime they have a constant humming sound.

This is what Chinese wall outlets look like:

They accept 3 types of plugs. US style, Euro style and whatever you want to call the bottom jack :)

All that said, I really wish I could get in on this group buy! $1400 for a 4k TV is a steal.

I'll see about them shipping outside of the US as well. Would be awesome if they would ship them everywhere. $1400 is dirt cheap considering the only ones available in the US are $18,000 and $25,000.

Does it have an English menu mode?

read the above posts.

yes, the group buy is for the US. No idea on the voltage haha. An electrician will have to answer that. I just sent them an email asking for solid info on the type of HDMI connection, whether the 220v will be an issue here in the US, and if there is an English option in the menu.

I agree with Bob. I would never buy a TV based solely on numbers. There is so much hyperbole marketing that you can just forget the resolution if the contrast, processing is not there. Waste of money. But hey- it's your money and 4K has been the magic buzz word here for years...

I think the smart thing o do would be to buy a sample unit asap at the regular price and test it visually against the best 1080 TVs like the Samsungs.
you'll know in a few minutes if it's worth anything....

please don't derail the thread, if your not interested, don't comment...

that would only be possible if they were available in the US....if you want to go to China be my guest.

Matt no need to be snarky here. you can get it shipped you know....:cheers2:

+1 , in for an even bigger one if there is an option.

Let's make damned sure it's a real 3840 x 2160 , and not some interpolated scheme !

They can even disable the tuner part, if that means they can bypass the UL issue.

+1

4k for possibly under 1k? HAHAHA, yea I'm in.

Go Matt!

only in a group buy situation as they do not sell outside of China... This is a special deal they are willing to set up. Unfortunately if you tried to order one they wouldn't ship to the USA.

Actually, this is a pretty good idea, a quality check would be nice and review but for 1k, that's hard to beat.

I think a better way to handle it would be someone trusted in our community go to their California office for a review in person, bring an Epic, and post footage so we can see what it looks like
playing back 4K footage.

After all, there's a HUGE difference between a first Generation 1080p LCD and a modern LG 50" 1080p 3D, though both have the same resolution.

-or- Set it up as 2 group buys...

I'd be game for a 2nd group buy if the first batch turns out well or first if a sample at their office was spot on.

cant be done as they do not ship outside of China. If they were available in the US, then that would be an option. This is a special one time thing I'm setting up. They are risking a lot shipping them here since they have not been certified and tested for use outside of China. While they are probably perfectly fine and work well here, they haven't paid the certification fees so this is an under the radar kind of sale.

John,
These models are not available in the US, so going to their US office wouldn't do anything as they are not here. The 4k models are only available in China. Skyworth USA will only have the units once they pay the certification fees and go through the US government testing required before they can be sold here. I asked if they had any on display here is the US or at their distributor and their answer was they are not available outside of China.

Guys, if your really worried about it don't buy one...This is a $1400 4k display from China (and ONLY available in China). If your leery, you should probably pass on the group buy. There is a $25,000 Sony 4k tv available if you want. Lets keep this a +1 to those who are interested in buying...Thanks
