Any experience with the Sagemax warranty from BH Photo? I'm planning to order several Nikon lenses and debating whether to get the 5-year coverage.

The general rule still holds... don't buy extended warranties.

Nothing against SageMax.

The only extended warranties you should consider come from the manufacturer. So... if Nikon or Zeiss (or whoever the lens manufacturer is) was offering a warranty I'd consider it, but for pros even manufacturers warranties often make no sense.

With care your lenses will be fine forever. Seriously you can get decades of use out of them.

If you are really worried then bank the money you would spend on insurance and if you need repairs you have a stash of cash.

If you have a history of being rough on your gear then you should get production insurance. That will cover you against theft, loss, accidents. and other things.

Regards,

I baby my equipment, but the lenses will go out with the Epic sometimes on rentals, which is why I was considering it. Sounds like good advice though. We will have production insurance on the lenses.

Off-topic, I see you're in DC. We should meet up some time. If nothing else, I'm planning to schedule a little community get-together when I get my Epic, as it will be one of the first in the area.

I think a lot of the extended warranties specifically exclude commercial uses, like rental.

So production insurance is definitely the way to go.

As far as meeting up, yes absolutely. You should try and come out to a TIVA-DC meeting. PM me sometime!
