Hey All,

I have contacted Skyworth, a chinese electronics manufacturer about the possibility of a group buy on their 50" 4k LED TV (3840x2160). http://www.skyworth.com/en/news-detail-2954.html

I also contacted Hisense about theirs but was told they would not be available in the USA until next year.

Here is some info on the Skyworth 4k tv ( approximate US retail price $1364.51 ):

Now, the only issue is these tv's have not undergone the UL certification required for the United States. They have agreed to sell us units if we are only using them to view our 4K content and not broadcast television. No testing and certification has been done so these tv's may not be compatible with our broadcast standards. You can use them as a computer monitor or for playback from REDRAY or Sony's new 4k player, or other soon to come 4K players.

I want to see how many people would be interested in purchasing a 50 inch 4k tv before I set up the group buy. I started this new thread as a carry over to this one: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?90174-quot-Only-sony-can-do-quot-a-4K-player

Please +1 yourself if you would for sure buy before Christmas. That is the deal we are currently trying to put together and since they will be coming from China, I need somewhat hard number to get this started. There isn't going to be affordable 4k tv's for a while here in the US, and for the price of an hdtv we can get this 4k tv. Let me know if your interested and in how many units. The model listed above will be what the group buy is for. Shipping and other details will follow, but wanted to see if there was interest before it's set up with Skyworth.

Thanks

I have also asked SKYWORTH if they will expand the group buy internationally, and will update this thread once I get the info.

+1

Hope they can ship to India as well...

Have there been any reviews on these? Pixel resolution is one thing but that doesn't mean much in the quality of a monitor. The price seems too good to be true? What about getting this to Canada?
Sorry for all the questions!

Is this group buy for the US? The 220V could be problematic for that right?

yes, the group buy is for the US. No idea on the voltage haha. An electrician will have to answer that. I just sent them an email asking for solid info on the type of HDMI connection, whether the 220v will be an issue here in the US, and if there is an English option in the menu.

One problem I just noticed...

Will this work with 110v power? It only says 220v. US buyers will need a step down transformer if it's only 220v.

I'm in for one unit

No reviews that I have found thus far. It's only available in China and was recently released so I haven't found much. As far as getting it somewhere other than the US, I will have to get back to you once I hear back from them.

Yeah, I saw his post after I posted.

People with 110v power need to make sure they don't plug this straight into the wall. A step down convertor will work, but I would check some reviews and see if the particular model you are looking for is noisy. Sometime they have a constant humming sound.

This is what Chinese wall outlets look like:

They accept 3 types of plugs. US style, Euro style and whatever you want to call the bottom jack :)

All that said, I really wish I could get in on this group buy! $1400 for a 4k TV is a steal.
