Should work fine Terry

Sorry for the double post, but: So am I right that with the current updates that happened today in RCX and the new FCS Installer and the new 8.0.2 Resolve Update, that RCX can now spit out Quicktime Reference files, like the proxy files used to do, going to the same folder as the R3D, allowing you to use them in FCP X, make your cut, send an XML straight to Resolve and finish in RAW there?
If so, great! :) Nice to see both Resolve and RED making this all happen for their users.

From the download page:

All clips resolutions over 4k are automatically decoded at half resolution

What does this mean exactly for Epic 5K movies vs 4K?

Posting again:

On opening old projects in RCX 11 or even creating new projects, I don't see thumbnails of the shots. It says that there are X number of items but no thumbnails. Meanwhile I can view the footage straight from the browser.

Hello - just a FCS3 update specific question:
Should this work with Audio?

I don't get Audio through with Log & Transfer and the new Plugin (only get flat audio waveforms & noise)!
FCS3, OSX 10.6.8 (all updates installed)... Audio recorded to channel 1 on an EPIC-X, 2.0.5 Release (clean with A-Box and external phantom power, fine with RC-X exports)...

Can somebody take a look if audio is working fine with L&T for them? Thanks!

RCX could always spit out QuickTime reference files, but it was limited to RED ONE. Now it supports Epic & Scarlet-X as well. Not sure if these work in FCP X, as they're meant for FCP 7. For FCP X I would probably transcode to ProRes as it seems to like that format best. But try out your workflow and let us know :)

Wrong thread, but we're looking at it

That should work, yes. Which version of RCX did you use to generate the QuickTime reference files? You need to use the just released build 11

Hey,

RCX 11 working great in Lion 10.7.2 here.

I upgraded the Scarlet without a hitch and playing around with footage I shot in the last 2 weeks of owning my camera. Just black-shading post-update.

It's awesome, thank you so much team RED!

@Rob Lohman: no, no... I don't mean the Proxy-workflow.

Log & Transfer directly to PRORES is what I'm talking about -> I don't get Audio through when I let FCS encode/debayer the files via Log & Transfer!
Latest RC-X (Beta 11) is installed, same for the v30.4 Update...

Hmmm, okay, we'll take a look at that Peter

Thanks, just to sort out if it's an user-error or if it should be fine...

Maybe it's just me doing something wrong. What would help me to sort it out:
Will FCS always refer to RC3/RG3 after the update is installed (overwriting older RC/RG values) or will it refer to to the Metadata embedded in the files and fall back to those?
The files are RC2/RG2 as they come from 2.0.5 (as for color temp "take from shot" is selected at the L&T import settings)... But then I don't see how the RC/RG settings should affect embedded audio. Always worked fine with RED One files and older FCS support versions iirc.

I'll try out some stuff tomorrow, maybe I can solve it myself...
But a verification from RED that it should play just fine with audio would help nonetheless.

This is definitely a problem on our end Peter. We're working on a fix.

When you generate the QuickTime reference files in RCX PRO it will use the settings as you've set them in the UI. So if you set it to RG3/RC3 then the REDCODE QT codec will use that.

Ok, thanks for the quick update…

I think I'm aware of the Proxy stuff now (still basically the same as earlier where I also had to re-generate the Proxy files to get rid of the color-shift after the RC1->RC2 switch)… my main concern is/was the missing audio with Log & Transfer to PRORES -> renders the L&T to PRORES workflow with FCS pretty useless for me right now. I know, there are always workarounds and other options…
just wanted to address it as an "issue". Since you're looking into it and seem to work on it I'm more relaxed now :wink5:

Peter: if you render to ProRes in RCX you don't have this issue

I'm also not getting audio when using L&T.
