  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic not switching over to Redvolt when Vmount pulled?

anyone found a solution to this? Red is asking for my sidehandle back and I am on the fense about sending it back....

I sent mine in yesterday. I'm hoping it is a problem with they side handle and they can fix it. Will let you know how it works out.

Please do. I don't want to bother sending it in until the issue has been figured out.

I've had this happen to me and experimented with some different procedures. Believe it or not if I boot up with the Redvolt first and then try and hot swap it'll will work fine. Go figure! I tried this multiple times, powering the camera down and back up and as long as the original boot was with the Revolt the hot swap worked. I'm on 2.05, using AB Dionic HC's with a Viewfactor mount.

Got my side handle back today. Now switches fine IF I unplug the lemo but not if I mount the brick while the red plate is plugged in. Tried starting from the redvolt with sporadic results.
Better then nothing...?

Waiting to hear back from tech support about this. Hopefully it's tolerances in the firmware and it all goes away with the impending new EPIC firmware release.... (fingers/crossed)

Kudos to RED on the relatively quick turnaround, now if only the problem was fixed 100%.

Sigh.

I have three Epics but only tested on one of them and it worked just fine. I must have been lucky, that camera had a modified quick plate (new 1b cable installed) and I was using Red bricks. The other two cameras are set up different, 1 has only a side handle and no battery plate and the other only VF battery plate and no side handle.

I wonder if there are issues when using a 2b to 1b adaptor? Sounds finicky either way.

Just to make sure I understand. When you unplug the lemo power cable the camera switches to the REDVOLT in side handle, but when you pull the V-mount battery it doesn't switch to the side REDVOLT in side handle. Is this correct?

Well it's fine now that its back if I unmount the RED BRICK but if I mount it it shuts the camera down. And yes, if I unplug the power cable before swapping RED BRICKS it works flawlessly.

Yeah, that's a sort of half fix. I'm curious what they did to your side handle exactly. I'm in the same boat and hoping maybe the next firmware upgrade will fix the problem completely without me having to send in my side handle.
How long was the turn around time once they got it.

Sent it in on a Friday and got it back the next Thursday.
Unfortunately 3.0 didn't fix it. I really don't want to send it in again but will see what support says after reviewing more info.

This happened to me last nite. Power with an Anton Bauer brick, camera was in the middle of a long TL, camera shutdown and didn't switch over to the RedVolt in the handle.
Clip is now corrupted. :( Strangely enough when I tried it again with the camera NOT recording, yanking the primary battery did switch over to the RedVolt, so I'm not sure what's goin on here.
BTW, the moon was INSANE last nite!

Update: I sent in my SH for service for the hotswap issue from AC to Redvolt not working. also my enter button jammed. Red is overnighting the SH back for my shoot. Great service Im hoping its fixed will update....

EDIT: Red fixed my SH now hotswaps no issues

Anyone still having issues with this?
Had this happen today on a commercial shoot.
Running build 3.0.7
AC power plug pulled out of wall by accident (still plugged into camera). Had a Quad Battery Module on the camera fully loaded with charged Redvolts, but the camera shut down when cable was pulled from outlet.

I last ran the camera last weekend under beta 3.2.8, and it happened to me when the V-mount ran out. Did not switch over to side handle red volt automatically. But on the previous build, I do recall deliberately pulling the plug on the V-mount source when it was getting low, and the camera DID transition to the REDvolt. I only did it once, so I don't know how repeatable the behavior would be. I also don't know if the difference between the two results owes to the fact of the cable being pulled as opposed to the external battery just running out or to the fact that there were two different firmware builds involved. Also hoping this bug gets some attention soon, as hotswapping is one of the major reasons for using two different kinds of batteries.
