  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Tattoo 2(k)...

I don't think I've ever seen this 2K quality on the white screen. And I've seen some movies made with the Red ONE. I think I've to find another location to see some movies...
I don't want to show this to my wife. She knows I want a Red camera, but if she sees this... All we see is DSLR stuff on internet. But this is great...
Thanks for posting the BIG file...

Just seen this @2K with my Pablo on a 13 feet screen. Just cant imagine how this would render @4K online.

Hats off.

Wow... This is like film on crack. I don't know how anyone can argue the superiority of film anymore... this is just miles ahead. Not a pixel of noise anywhere... amazing!

This is a tiny think, but I get a buzz every time I see the filament in, or the texture of some type of light fixture shot on Epic.

Red Dragon? Cant wait. :)

Ivan

Just watched it in our showroom on a 160' "4K ready" screen. It looks gorgeous.
I just regret i can't do it with the 4K file on Red 4k projector hehe...

I really like this shot. I've never seen this technique before where both subjects are in focus and the middle is out of focus (the gun). Any type of name for this technique?. And the detail on their face blows my mind, its so sharp!

They used a split diopter.

I'm pretty sure this technique had been around for at least 50 years, if not more...
You could also pull this off with Shift&Tilt lens...

Yeah, split diopters aside, a shift tilt lens would also do it on a large-ish sensor. This is a classic view camera move, (usually combined with an Fstop like F32 or 64 to bring everything back into sharp focus) and we all know how long view cameras have been around. I expect to see a lot of such innovations as sensors get larger:
Imagine correcting or exaggerating converging or diverging lines, i.e buildings; doorways, tiled floors; or "swinging" to hold a picket fence or wall in focus, from inches to the horizon. A swinging and tilting sensor would be kinda nice too, but I'm not so sure about that ever happening.

Excellent! Considering leaving my wife for the Epic. Seriously! Damn, She's coming...

I feel your pain bro. Try to find a way to have both. Maybe if you guys both set the same goals (getting the Epic). Tell her all the benefits of owning all your own film equipment.
How much money you can both earn. She'll probably work just as hard as you to get it. You're in my prayers buddy.

...Just watched "RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK" and it suddenly hit me. The visuals in TATTOO, lighting, blocking, framing and pace reminded me a lot of the aesthetic and evocative imagery that Douglas Slocombe (in my oppinion, one of the all time best cinematographers) brought to the Indiana Jones movies (Raiders is one of those films that just instantly made me want to become a filmmaker). But then it also struck me...TATTOO is of course shot on RED EPIC and not on 35mm film. ...It still amazes me how "filmic" an image a RED camera can produce :) Again, KUDOS to awesome talent behind this short!

Phenomenal! Everything was great about this, cinematography, lighting, it was beautifully shot. Great work. The sound was fantastic too. Thanks for sharing!
