2. We announced the RED Dragon. It is of the Monstro family and is scheduled to be released in 2012. The significance of this sensor is that it is an upgrade to the current EPIC-X and EPIC-M and not a new brain. Obsolescence obsolete is alive.


Let's hope there will be a similar option for the 2/3" brains.

Was there any mention of SSDs or EVFs moving faster? Or are they part of the parts delay as well? I hope the accessory lines are all moving at top speed even in the Epic line is waiting on parts.

I've finally decompressed from NAB and I have to say the most exciting thing for me was the Red Dragon announcement. It's great to know that my investment in a Stage 2 Epic X is already destined to be upgraded into yet an even higher realm before I've even received it! RedRay and development of a "Home" (affordable?) 4K laser projector are icing on the cake. I hope it's good enough for grading.

I spent a lot of time playing with the DSMC Accessories. What an erector set! I was extremely impressed with the machine-work and build quality of everything. Even though the Spinner has a greased friction joint, it felt like a fluid head. Mission Control and LivePlay alone are reason enough to buy an iPad.

I made a suggestion that the Mic Input connectors on the front of the Brain should be screw-on balanced mini-plug connectors rather than simple plug-ins. Hope that makes it into the shipping version!

Everything is beyond well worth the wait. In the big picture, the disaster in Japan is more important. My wife and I have friends in Japan and what we hear from them is frightening.

Remember that there are good reasons we are late... Japan being only one of them.

We are in unchartered territory, designing our sensors from scratch as well as our ASICs... everything actually. We have no history to pull from. The biggest contributor is that we "think out loud" while other companies just wait until they are ready. The advantage to our way of doing it is that we stay more connected to our customers and listen for feedback... then make changes. The downside to this strategy is apparent.

IMHO ... You're doing just fine, all things considered.

I'm more worried about what is expected of me financially in the coming months, rather than what is expected of you guys delivery date wise.

On the plus side ... I got to deduct over $12,000 from last year's income for gear I don't even have yet. :001_smile:

When can your customers start showing their support with their pocketbooks? I for one, would like to get into line and wish that deposits were opened up regardless of delivery date. Are there factors that don't allow for this to be done? It was done for RED ONE and a sequel is in order.

Might want to check with a tax accountant or lawyer on that. Generally you can only deduct or depreciate gear after it is actually put into service.

might not want to say that out loud...you can't start depreciating equipment until the year its put into service.
