  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ALERT! Please read.

What comes around goes around. They will get theirs in EPIC proportions...
Health is everything so thanks for that.
Sorry for the loss.

Robbery, theft and corporate espionage is one thing. Hell, corporate espionage is just part and parcel of how things are played! But... Home invasion with eight people in the house...
I hope these guys get caught. Soon.

I'm sorry to read this. It's true that all that matters is the human safety, but one can't help dwelling on the crime. I think corporate espionage is out for the reasons stated by Andrew, but it does seem to have been a very confident and targeted crime. I read a few months ago that some gangs on the continent use some form of gas before they enter - no one woke up during the forced entry or the close proximity, and the gang manifestly thought it was "worth" doing, seeming to home in on the Red.

I'm glad the family are physically okay. All the best for 2011.

I agree that there should be some way to track these cameras remotely. Hopefully this will cause RED to rethink that option. I'm sorry for your loss Mark and I hope you have insurance!

Horrible! I can understand the trauma, my apartment was broken into a few years back while I was sleeping. Fortunate for your family no one woke up - I did - and was beaten pretty badly. Worse they took my grandfather's Leica which I had just received about a month before after his passing. As irreplaceable as anything I have.

It'll take awhile to get over but I wish you, indeed, a happy new year.

I doubt these French perps know what they stole. They will probably try to sell it thinking it is a normal camera. Hope you guys find it, this a very bad news for the Red community.
It might have been mentioned but all they have to do is Google it :(

This is crazy,

You got our support Mark... hope all turns out well.

Your kidding!!! That is so retarded. There doesn't exist an insurance good anough to cover such an historical piece of developement. We got robbed in 1 village higher than Meribel too last year. But we had the guy on AVCHD;). A few minutes later they found him and beat the livving sh*t out of that french dude till the gendarmerie came. When they took a piek in his apparment it was full of stolen stuff. So I hope that they get the guy...there is hope anough but people will just need to keep there eyes open. I'm happy nobody got hurt man that would have been awfull. Probably guys like that just spot you with the equipment and then follow you back home. Best wishes.

Mark I'm glad to hear everyone is ok. I'm sure she'll show her pretty little head sooner or later.

Mark, I am so sorry to hear that happened. First and most important of all, I'm relieved to hear that nobody was hurt, physically at least.

Although it is most likely true they didn't know what they stole, I can't help but think the worst, that they knew exactly what they were getting. Unfortunately that's the huge downside to this wonderful community, where both you and Red themselves have been so graciously open with the process is that in the end all eyes were on you as soon as 006 left with FedEx. 175,000+ views on the forum topic as well as media outlet re-postings.

So anyways, huge condolences go out to you, your family, and RED. But I agree with the other posts, there is no way this camera doesn't pop up somewhere and go unnoticed. Good Luck Mark and please stay in touch.

I know everyone here including myself will keep our eyes and ears open. Glad you and everyone else are safe!

Mark: Even though I don't know you personally I pray for your peace, and that you have wisdom for you and your family to deal with the situation.

I understand your violation. When we were in Chicago my wife (my producer also) and I had our living quarters on the upper floor of our studio building. We were asleep at 2 am when pros came in through 2 inch steel doors with Medeco locks. My wife woke up and asked who the masked man was at the foot of our bed. I sleep through everything but my wife's question woke me. It's amazing what you do on adrenaline. I jumped out of bed stark naked yelling "In the name of Jesus get out of here!" and grabbed a fireplace poker and chased him down the hall and stairs. Then I realized what had happened. Fortunately we only lost some petty cash. They missed the camera cases. But I will never forget the sense of violation.

May your new year be much better. Again to peace to you and your family.

I doubt they just stumbled into the hotel room and so happened to rip-off an epic. This sounds like a planned heist to steal the epic and it is probably sitting on a test bench in pieces right now. I highly doubt that 0006 will ever see the light of day again.

We use to hire off-duty cops for security on big jobs. We would never leave equipment in a room by itself. The cops loved doing these jobs.

I still take a rolling lockable case with me for cameras & laptops. I secure these in my van or at night in a room with heavy locks & chains. I was ripped off in 1988 - learned a hard lesson that you can never rest easy.

I also use these -

Mark, First my sincere regrets to you and your family. Thankfully all are unharmed, yet I am sure a bit scared emotionally. I sucks to have cowards break in in the middle of the night and take whats yours. I'm sure the loss of the images hurt almost as much as the gear. Thankfully it was only stuff, remember Elizabeth Smart. In a weird way your bad experience is going to benefit the rest of us. Everyone who's heard about this will be extra careful in the future when they travel, I know I will. Try to put it behind you and be thankful for what you still have.

Sorry to here that Mark, but other than a loss of innocence and dignity they took nothing of real value.

Red Ones got stolen in prototype stage right? And now a early Epic?

It would appear such a camera has a low value because you can pass off the work or easily sell it, because it is so unique. Epic #00006 is valuable because of its engineering utility, and the list of people who would steal it should be alot lower.

I guess the lesson is that when you have a rare and expensive camera, you need a serious security protocol where ever you go. Keep your epic under lock and key. Don't broadcasts its location.

Having been Rubbed and shot before

Haha, sorry to laugh at your misfortune Ketch, and I know english isn't your first language but thats its funny.
