  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ALERT! Please read.

Oh, and a subsequent question... related to the new RED M.D. stuff, does each camera "know" which serial it is? and is that burned as a value / field into R3D metadata?

Mark,
Glad to hear you and all your family members are okay. I know how it feels to have been broken into. It sucks.
I know this is going to sound slightly crazy to everyone on this forum, but it's only a camera and some gear that is all completely replaceable.
These guys will probably go onto the internet soon to find out what they have because none of them have ever seen a camera like that and then realize they're up the creek. They'll have no where to sell it and it'll end up getting recovered.
This is probably the worst way to start out the new year.
Thank god you guys are all okay. That is all that matters.
Shit like this just makes me so fucking mad.
Maybe you should think about getting a Rottweiler as an accessory when you get the camera back.

This is really sad story, and I'm glad no one was hurt. The most important is to try to calm down and take care of the childern.
I know how horrible it is as there was a breakin in my new house 2 years ago ( at night and girlfriend pregnant). They stole for about 15000€ of gear. Whatever !

I think nearest countries like Belgium, Holland, Germany, Spain, Italy or switzerland could be a target too, as you can go trough 3 or 4 countries within 24 hours. If the thieves are not French, they could be anywhere.
Contacting press is maybe not a good idea, but in he other case, if the MFK guys try to know what they stole and its value, the more people hear about this story, the more these guys would get pressure and realize it's gonna be hard to sell. Anyway, my opinion is : Or they try to sell it ( and succeed or failed, the Epic is in the circuit again) or they keep it hidden and try to sell only parts. Anyway, internet research in the nex few days could be an idea to see if those guys are stupid enough to sell it on the web.

Mark, this just stinks in so many ways. Glad that you and your family are safe. Like Jarred says, the camera can be replaced, not so your family. Keep them close. We're all in this together.

Extremely sorry to hear this news Mark, hope all is well with your family and friends and all are safe. They have really kicked up a hornets nest on this one, they will regret this I'm sure!

Yes, all RED cameras record their (unique) PIN value into the .R3D files...

Cross posted to another forum in the lighting community. We all know what it is like to loose items that thieves have no idea what they are.
You can pretty much be sure that this will not be able to be used anywhere for any legitimate reason without someone knowing.

So upsetting to hear this happened to your family Mark!

Thankfully everyone is unharmed, that's the most important thing to take away from this.

As far as the EPIC goes, you haven't let anyone down. It's the dark side of humanity at work. We're on your side Mark.

I really hope this is not an industry related crime, but a standard (if there is such a thing) burglary. Hopefully the word will reach these thieves immediately that the EPIC is way too hot to try and sell or hang onto as it will get them arrested because everyone is looking for it. Maybe they will be wise enough to abandon it and somehow let the authorities know where to pick it up.

Gutted and devastated for you. Elated none of the kids woke up. They probably have googled what the camera is to find its value and are right now sat down working out what the fuck to do.

It's far too hot to sell. Let's just hope they are stupid so they can get caught. I hope it isn't an organised crime.

We're all with u Mark.

Pity that 2010 ends on a down note. Eventhough an Epic was shipped 2010.

This story could of ended much more tragic given those details... as much as it sucks you temporarily lost #6.. it's replaceable. Those 6 children and 8 men and women are not. Glad everyone is ok.

This is so true.

Our home was broken into on Christmas Eve a few years ago, and many things were stolen, including, of course, our Christmas gifts and my cameras. So I know the sense of violation too well. But in the end, it's just stuff. Even if it's Epic stuff. I'm so glad to know your family are all safe.

Scary story, Mark. And honestly, the only thing that matters is that no one was harmed.

This is so revolting.

It's terrible to close 2010 with such sad news.

Sorry Mark for you and your familly.

Just wonder if they could be so "stupid" to throw it in the lake because as of today they would have google it and find out about this thread and their big mistake. Or if it is espionnage is it possible to copy an Asic?

Wish you very best for the new year.

From the Swiss Alps, I'll keep an eye open.

Patrick

Mark,
So sorry to hear this! Thank god your family is ok. My camera truck was robbed last month on a job and I lost 50k worth of gear so I know what that feels like. Of course I didn't lose an EPIC M
