  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet S35 is now...

You made the right decision Oliver. I also bought a AF100. I will buy an Epic/Scarlet when it ships but until then the waiting, the hype, the changes, delays and promises have just been insane. It reminds of the making of Apocalypse Now. I can't think a single other photographic product that has gone through the post Red One pre-announcement/development/delivery process. Hopefully like Apocalypse we will get a classic, but I ain't gonna starve waiting for it.
 
Ha, I think we've found the name of the next generation of Red cameras after Epic.... "The Apocalypse"!!

It has the perfect promo line too:

"The Apocalypse. Coming soon."

"The Apocalypse. The end of the competition is nigh...."

Hi-
I just wanted to clarify something... have spent a while searching the forum, but can't find a definitive answer.

My recollection is that Jim has said the Epic-S will have HDR, with a higher price tag than the original Scarlet S35 price. I also seem to recall a comment that all cameras moving forward will include HDR. But the show notes from Red Centre's podcast (normally a very reliable source) point to this thread stating that Epic-S won't have HDRx™.

Three possibilities:
Epic-S won't have HDR
Red Centre is wrong
Epic-S will have HDR, but only the 'magic' mode, not HDRx™.

Can anyone give me the official answer on that?

Actually, there has been.

The new EPIC-M has HDRx now and will have eHDR at a later time. HDRx is the "professional solution". See:

HDRx is where the two streams that combine to create a final HDR image are saved, and you can manipulate them in post.

eHDR is where they are already combined into a single stream.

I think it was said there was no reason to use eHDR instead of HDRx unless there were serious footage space constraints, since HDRx takes up twice the space (due to the doubled streams). HDRx clearly gives you a lot more flexibility in post.

AFAIK, all cameras (Epic and Scarlet) will have HDRx. Actually, eHDR is harder to do, because the camera need to recombine both streams, so maybe eHDR will be Epic (or Epic-X) only.
 
wasnt there going to be a scarlet announcement recently? did i miss anything?
 
i am for poetic names, not numbers or letters. epic is fine, scarlet is fine, as would be nepukadnezar, venus or 'deus ex machina'.

I'm curious... did we get that update? I remember lots of discussion, but no verification of new price or features. Perhaps I missed it?

Time for the four F's: Festivities, food, family, and friends.
 
And like Apocalypse Now, it will be a master piece. I think people have to calm down a little. If the camera you want isn't yet available wait for it or buy something else. This is the way RED do stuff and I love the way its done. I'm just amazed about everything that is going on. I bet Jim and the team are the people who wants these cameras out there the most. Its not everyday you have the chance to change how the system works. And they are doing it.
