  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-M...

Hi Jim, two questions:
1.if Epic-M can't playback the clip, then can we use the 3rd party tools to record the HD-SDI such as 'Ki Pro'?
2.When are we going to make the payment of Epic-M? The full payment or just depoiset?I sent email to Kelly, but haven't heared anything from her.

Regards

I should clarify my post regarding playback -I've never lost R1 footage at any time in the hundreds of hours shot- and we're moving so fast there's no time to check until we wrap and are back at the hotel, or wherever.

When I stop recording and it posts I know it will be fine. Such is my confidence in the system.

Mobile Rocket will be on hand for this project anyway so bases are covered.

Yang, Kelly answered your 2nd question in another thread:

Rest assured, I have received everyone's emails. Once emails slow down, we will be sending out an email confirmation to everyone. Thanks for your patience.

Sure. And playback, along with the other disabled features, will be enabled by firmware upgrade in the near future.

would it be possible to give us the old link with the features and specs of all the scarllet and epic models and possible the new features that have been developed in the process like! i think it used to be Red revealed or something like that!!

Epic - "M" designation could be confused with the Mysterium sensor. We talk about the "M" and the "MX". I told someone today about the Epic-"M" and they asked why Red was going to the older sensor.

I hit them and said "shut up and give me $58,000"

You only have 5K 2.37:1 at 120fps. Bummer. :-)

Jim

LOL.... I think I can manage with that. Actually, I was just mentioning a possible temporary limitation.

What I'm personally much more interested in is EPIC's long-exposure abilities. Will we have the ability to do longer exposures? Even up to 30s or externally triggered "bulb" cycles? It seems to be one of those questions about EPIC that has not been answered yet.

That's one way to put your sugar momma back in check.

Actually I am really impressed the list of "ON' features includes HDRx - that one feature is so important and so interesting - I dont really care about the others - they are all 'workaround points'

I must admit the Epic -M vs Red One M or Red One -MX also seemed to me to be a think that will confuse some people. Just seems oddly close and completely different. Not the end of the world but hey.

The Epic M seems very very workable from your published list - thanks

Thanks a lot, Jim.

Mike, I think the same. With all due (enormous) respect I really think EPIC-M and RED would benefit from a name that represents the significance of this camera.

The fact that you've offered the opportunity to acquire pre-production, hand built, machined versions of such groundbreaking cameras really deserves as much attention as it can receive. Really who else would offer anything near to what Jim and by default RED are offering with this model EPIC?

At first I thought calling it EPIC-MACHINE was cool, but the "M" designation was too close to M=Mysterium sensor.

OK, back on topic. I'm so glad to hear that the EOS mount is ready to go too.

I find it amusing that we have nothing to complain about the camera - so we're now stuck debating the name :)

Does the HDSDI output send out the same metada as the Red One to enable the Teradek workflow?

So then I question my "logic" of paying the premium... Anyway, just thinking out loud, and probably not helping my case for getting one. hehe.

If you can possibly get on the list to get one, you've got to... I don't think I've heard of a more "can't miss" investment in a long, long time! The camera is certain to be worth at least double its price as soon as it's in your hands. After that, the sky's the limit. Jim might even offer to buy it back from you at some point in the future :)

So the technical beauty of the camera aside, you're also looking at a rare, one-off, hand-made in the US collector's item. It would probably sit under glass with a lot of owners if it didn't make such pretty images...
