  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pre-production EPIC-Ms...

Titanium R's stopped around # 1018 or some number like that, I don't recall the exact number. My #1110 didn't get one.

I got Titanium Rs for both 1073 and 1080 (this one signed by Jim at NAB 2007), deposits were sent in before the oct 2006 deadline.

ha, me too. I was waiting behind somebody to give my CC info to TED (probably would have been in the first 5-10 to sign up at NAB.) Then he said he had to go do one of his hourly spiels. I'd already heard it so I went over to the Panasonic booth to talk to them about the Firestore for the HVX for one of my underwater housing customers. (BTW met Jarred there - he was helping in the Panny booth). Didn't make it back until the next day so ended up number 206 - still have my titanium R (how high did they go on those?)

I have a similar story: I was there on monday, right behind Gibby and all these (now famous) guys so I would been like 15 tops but I get into the booth and they are not accepting AMEX yet, I got an apology straight from Jim himself (which made my day anyway) and I kept going to the booth until the AMEX thingy finally arrived. I got #185 which isn't bad and that camera has brought so much joy and success to our business that I'm not even complaining!

I hope Jim, Ted and the rest of the crew will remember this when picking the lucky Epic-M owners (and also all the hard work we've done to promote Red in Mexico). But even if we don't make it to the list, we will always be grateful and in debt with Red. They've done so much good for our industry it's just unbelievable.

As always, our deepest appreciation and all our respect to Jim and Co.

Cheers!

Dave Jim made it very clear... that this will not change anyone's place in line or effect the production time-line a few posts back. :-)

So I did miss something. Perfect. Thanks for the reply.

I bet that at least 30 of these will go to The Hobbit

The Hobbit will be amongst the first productions in the world to use the EPIC and at least thirty cameras will be required by the 3-D production. The EPIC'S small size and relatively low weight, makes it perfect for 3-D - where two cameras have to be mounted on each 3D rig.

I wouldn't be surprised if those thirty haven't already been built as the +13s. That is probably what gave Jim the idea to offer handbuilts to RED customers.

Interesting. Never thought of that. But wasn't it said that the +13 cameras were missing some board in them that the m bodies do have? Since there are only 13 and the order is for 30+ (taking into account they prob will have backup bodies) I would think you would want cameras that have all the same components in them for unity. Especially with the complex nature of 3d rigs that require singular communication between two cameras. It might be a problem if some are missing essential circuity.

Please don't try to guess what is going on here... someone might actually believe you know what the story is. :-)

The Hobbit doesn't start principal photography until early next year.

Jim

No disrespect. I'll shut up now. My apologies.
