Finally we have drivers for cuda!!

I compared it with 285, and...

Playback test, with r3d at eight res and 1920x1080

GTX480 alone - 51 fps
GTX285 alone - 28 fps
GTX480 + 8800GT - 41 fps
GTS285 + 8800GT - 41 fps

6x nodes with blur in all of them, with r3d at 1/8 res and 1920x1080

GTX480 alone - 22 fps
GTX285 alone - 11 fps
GTX480 + 8800GT - 28fps
GTX285 + 8800GT - 22 fps

I think this is the end of dual graphics card for davinci. At least for me.

PD: No mercury yet. I'm using a hackintosh.

Saludos,

Jose.

Hi Jose,

Where did you get the Mac driver for the gtx480?

Does the 480 need to be injected/moded?

Which card? EVGA?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

No any nvidia inject. I only update to 10.6.5 and installed the latest nvidia fermi driver for quadro4000 + cuda driver 3.2.

I have com.apple.boot.plist modified for my graphics cards.

The gtx480 is very fast and the responsiveness of playback controls of resolve are better than with 2 cards.

The only problem that i have is the temp of the card, the gtx480 is very hot!, but for the rest, the system is very smooth.

I will try to test the 3 video outs at the same time in the next days... My card is a "point of view nvidia gtx480"

saludos

Jose, do you have rocket installed? And your using the Quadro4000 drivers?

thanks for testing and posting your results

Whoa, hang on - so you are running:
- a single GTX480 on Mac hackintosh
- using the Quadro4000 + CUDA 3.2 driver?

Awesome! Of course, GTX580 will be 15% faster and cooler and quieter... is it an option? Anyway, this is still great news. Yay.

We are running a 8x2.26 Mac Pro with GTX 285 + GT 120. Lemme know if you want to do a benchmark comparison.

yes, I'm using quadro4000 drivers, I think this drivers are for all fermi cards, maybe gtx580 too.

I haven't rocket yet. I have only a good CPU, i980x 6 cores @ 4.2ghz. I can get 6fps at full decode, and 22fps at half good.

I'm running SpeedGrade on Windows without a RedRocket on a HPZ800 8core and a 5800fx and get 5 fps at full decode sustained and 26 fps at half decode sustained.

The decoding is done by the CPU. The colour manipulation, however, is done with the GPU. So the question would be: How does your system perform when you manipulate the colours while you playback your sequence? Does your frame rate decrease when touching the wheels? Would an 8 core bring you 24/25 RT?

And most importantly: how fast are your render times? Can you leverage your GPU for rendering?

I only use full decode for render and review that all is ok. The rest of the time I use 1/4 decode or half decode limited to 18fps. I limited the playback to 18fps because the CPU is not at full load, and the UI is smooth.

I think that 8 core can't do better performance (at least if you don't overclock), I think you must go to 12 core Mac Pro 2.93, or rocket.

Normally the render times are slower when render because encoding and writing to disk.
I rendered 4k at full res to proress 575 frames - 126 seconds. = 4.5 fps

Great news,

In the meantime someone receive the Resolve CC, what is the way to do color correction in Adobe CS5 ?

Color Finesse in AE ?

is so, what is the render speed ?

Thanks

Antoine

Color Finesse is about half the render speed of Apple's Color, while Resolve is nearly 4 times faster than Color. Plus, CF is difficult to handle – no keyframing in the GUI, for example, no useable tracker.

Go Resolve!

So you can just buy any GTX 480 (PC versions) and throw it into a mac pro and download the fermi and it works?

Not sure why do you need to calculate the render speed. It's shown in the left top corner during the render. Is your Resolve not showing it?

yes, Resolve show it, but it's jumping, the other method is exact.

umm... who said that?... This is what all of us want... but, i didn't test that.
My test was made with a hackintosh.

'Maybe it works', with black screen on startup, but, the other problem is power. The GTX 480 need a lot of power, it has 2 concector, one with 6 pin and the other with 8 pins. The heat can be a problem too.
This is because i prefer hackintosh, I'm free to decide what i want at good price.

That is what I was worried about and is why I ended up choosing the gtx285.

Please keep us up to date on your tests! I am curious as to how it performs.

In Europe or in Germany, Austria, Switzerland,... you can officially buy a hackintosh.
