  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Scarlet shipping early 2011 - confirmed!!!!

I'll bet that things are changed now and Scarlet S35 comes first.

Unless Jim says otherwise, I bet they are sticking with the original rollout schedule: 2/3" fixed, 2/3" cinema, S35. Initial demand for Epic will probably take all of their S35 sensor production for at least a couple of months, unless they will be using rejects that don't quite meet Epic performance specs for Scarlet S35.

good point, but i don't even think they'd do that haha, since perfection is the name of their game.

i'm also waiting for scarlet S35, so i'm very interested to see what happens, before april would be amazing but i'm not going to count on it. PLUS more time =more money = more modules!

There may be otherwise good sensors that for whatever reason won't meet Epic's specified maximum frame rates. These would be fine for Scarlets. Just like otherwise identical Intel processor chips that get speed graded based on their QC tests and assigned different model designations.

true. yeah, i guess so, but either way i think that they have a good idea of how many people are going to be buying the cameras, so i think they'll have quite a stock of sensors. I think everything with shipping should go a bit smoother than the R1 shipping.

or is it that sanjin wants the s35 scarlet first? ;)

Kaya,

because of my famous warranty void thing with IMS for R1 I'm at the end of the line anyway...

So no need to worry about that I want get anything first from RED, no benefit and also I always have to pay the full price....

I think i'm out of the loop, what was this IMS for R1? pm me if you don't feel like putting it in this unrelated thread

I have to say that I agree with some that Jim's statement that Scarlet S35 will come out before April 2011 is a move to steal some of the thunder of the recent Sony announcement.

Unless Jim posts a Recon thread announcing that Scarlet S35 and Scarlet 2/3 are going to come out around the same time.

I think it's pretty obvious that a lot of the market has moved beyond 2/3 sensors, Scarlet S35 should be their priority.

I'm just praying they keep it as affordable as possible.

oh sanjin,
sorry, no pun intended.
i just thought s35 scarlets just fits your ultimate auteur dream perfectly and that the desire is tottaly understandable.

I will be buying a camera in July. Period. I hope it is a Scarlet.

Kaya,

you are right on that...

I am putting money down on a late summer release for the Scarlet S35 but I hope the Red proves me wrong. It would be great if I could buy a Scarlet on my birthday :)

I think Jim is pretty determined to get these cameras out as soon as he can. He said before April, and if not quite then either way we at least know its just around the corner. I'm excited! :)

I agree with Sanjin I think that Red would gain substantial by offering the S35 early in 2011. Panasonic, Sony and Canon all have their 35mm lower end professional cameras almost ready to ship.

This is just my opinion but I think the Scarlet S35 will be a substantially better offering than these cameras. Resolution, Compression, Codec, HDRx™™, and Scarlets superior specifications etc...
The problem is if Red doesn't hit this market hard and quickly they will loose sales to these companies. Once you loose a sale (even though you may have a better camera) you also loose all the accessories and associated markets.
The Fixed Scarlet looks like being a great all round camera as does the 2/3 but the S35 is going to be the flagship (Scarlet) camera, shipping the S35 early 2011 would be a master stroke and would decimate the competitors.
Just my 2 Cents

I think that the wisest move RED can make is to make Scarlet S35 a priority.

If they take too long, by the time they come out there will be many S35 options on the market already.

(...)
Very well said. This is what the market is looking for, since years...

It looks pretty good but that's probably from GH2's still mode...or???!!!
Sanjin,

Frame grab. This camera is a bargain and a must have.

E. :-)
