  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Who is RED?

This means Professional 2/3" Scarlet, S35 Scarlet, S35 EPIC, FF 35 EPIC, 645 EPIC and 617 EPIC with professional features at professional prices.

Jim

So you are confirming that there will not be a FF35 Scarlet?

Jim

And FF35 Scarlet right? Riiiiiighhhhttt? Slip of the tongue right? Riiiiiiiiighhhhttt??

You know how nervous we get when you forget to list everything. Especially the poor FF35 Scarlet which always seems to be forgotten in lists.

Ok! But prof camera means prof prices! Does it mean a big increase prices for Professional 2/3" Scarlet, for Professional S35 Scarlet from 2500 and 7500 (but really with accessories and lenses about 16K and 25K)? A big increase I mean not for 1-2K I mean for 6-7K?

Relax...

Scarlet FF35 and Scarlet 2/3" Fixed. Although Scarlet S35 and FF35 also need an upgrade to handle HDRx.

Happy? :-)

Amen to that line up of professional gear.

Could you speak about what is RED's current thinking about the distinction between the S35 Scarlet and S35 EPIC?

Please just stop, please. . .

Yes. :)

In fact I'm really happy about HDRx because I think it means we'll be getting a framerate or redcode datarate bump on the scarlet as a result will we not? Got to put those additional ASICs to work beyond HDRx.

Yes, thank you. Would you even consider a FF35 Scarlet without HDRx? I would feel pretty left out if the 2/3 had it and the FF did not.

The big difference between the two is processing power inside the camera. That means frame rates and REDCODE capabilities. EPIC has every capability. Scarlet does not. EPIC has all the "hard stuff".

We have to look at S35 pricing since we are adding capability (HDRx).

Jim

Great news. All we want is the best cameras possible you can and will make.

I feel EPIC is just around the corner.... Correct?

Seems like alot of people don't get how much horsepower it takes to push all
those frames through at that Resolution and so they are not understanding Epic.

Even some people who have already signed up for the Epic stages have
posted that they feel kinda slighted now that Scarlet will have HDR. But
they just don't understand what a feat it is to have that slo-mo option
at that resolution right at your fingertips.

Glad to hear this Jim. I'm sure the lure of billion-dollar profits
from having a "prosumer" camera in every Apple store may be
tempting, but you can't be all things to all people.

As you said, Red's unique position in the marketplace is the
best PROFESSIONAL cameras in the industry ... at affordable
yet professional prices.

With the explosion in independent filmmaking and video
production that's happening all over the world, there are more
than enough serious professionals to pay the modest prices Red
is charging ... with Red still be wildly successful. Without
comprising your vision or commitment quality one iota.

Thanks for the communication.

The concept of RED was to build a camera with as much capability as possible... for the professional market. Then we thought we could extend it down a bit to the prosumer level. Apparently, that was a mistake.

I'm still excited about the Scarlet program. It still will be an absolute steal.

But if I may ask, from the quote above, what was mistaken about it? If you're able to briefly elaborate...
