Once again JimNRED have gone beyond in offering initial users a preferred upgrade path in the Select S35 Epic.

I'm totally grateful but don't get it. Why would RED prefer owners to upgrade to the S35 instead of one of the Epic Monstro sensor cameras? Given that the next steps up sell the brain for More money why not get the same preferred package on those cameras. It Seems to me the existing special, will have the effect of luring people not to upgrade to a Monstro sensor EPIC.

If they gave this package on all the upgrades to EPIC, RED would encourage higher dollar sales in RED Upgrades. from RED 1 owners. Given the same percentage of profit on all brains, which would be the probable pricing, it's better for RED If I upgrade my RED 1 to the biggest Monstro sensor so they make more money and I have more choices?

Trying to make myself totally clear here: So a special package on the S35 with FREE Aks. encourages me to spend less on going more upscale...... Why?

PS Thanks for the deal
TJ

My guess is that the Epic Monstro packages won't be ready in time for that to make sense.

My speculation is that its "squeezing the market" The monstro is aimed for those where the price increase is not a bother. Similar to Nikon or Canon or Apple where the pro models aren't really that much better but the pro's spend the few extra thousand to have the best and have a few small extra psoitives that sets them apart.. In this industry anyone working in the realms of pro is not going to squint at the the 40 or so thousand the monstro will cost. That will probably match one of their lenses....

I think your being a bit cynical. Monstro is the next evolutionary step up
from Mysterium, just look at the specs, and with that step comes a price.

More to the point of this thread, I think the generous offer from Red is more
geared toward allowing R1 owners to buy in cheap to the "brain bucket"
system, so that down the road when you want to upgrade your camera you
don't have to throw away the whole camera you just buy what you need.

Still If we upgrade directly to Monstro by holding our reds another few months RED should make more money.... Why would they make a special deal that makes it less likely we'd buy higher priced merchandise. Hey most RED 1 owners are pros and most of us would prefer to upgrade to the FF35 at least, but it's 5K more Not a big deal. With the special deal on S35X it is maybe 8K or 10K more, therefore less of us will upgrade as far?
