  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Official Post Your DSLR Still Photography Thread

Here is yet an other picture of the Disney Hall... :) I served as a juror this week, and since we
parked in the Disney Hall parking structure I figured I should snap one even if under mid-day sun:

Betacam - Tokina 11mm - I should clean up the water streaks on the left, huh?

Had a fun model shoot today, here a few of the results! All shot with Canon EOS 7D, EF50mm f/1.2L USM and EF24mm f/1.4L MkII USM.

Fantastic stuff as usual Paul. I love this photo. Care to give a little insight on how you achieved this photo?
Thanks Brad!

I shot it through what the Japanese call a UFO Catcher (arcade prize game where you use claws with zero actual grip to try to 'catch' prizes). Here's a small scale, direct-out-of-camera example (different angle) where it's easier to see the environment around her:

I just made sure that I had a bunch of reflections and flares off various surfaces in the shot, giving it the depth and interesting look. I'm a big fan of reflections and flares when it's in the context of the shot. Ditto on adding noise, degrading the image etc. The great thing is that (much like shooting Red really) you start with a very clean, precise image with the 7D which gives you maximum flexibility to achieve just about any look in post (as you can see in my examples).

HTH!

Cheers from Tokyo,

Paul

I've been neglecting this thread, because most of my shots are going into my thread about Southwest Light. Here's a random shot of the moon from last night. I was doing some tests with the Canon 1D4 + EF 600 F4 shooting at 10 frames per second large JPEG. The Red would also be great for this type of filming, but I don't have any super-long PL lenses for the MX. This was taken from about 11,000 feet in elevation at Patriarch Grove in the Ancient Bristlecone Forest.

It's almost a part of history for my RED#694:

Once I get Epic, that EF 600mm F4 is gonna be mind blowing!

Epic sunset yesterday:

The photo just can't do the original colours justice. This was truly a unique convergence of cloud formation combined with me being in the right place at the right time to line up with the sun setting directly behind the middle cloud, giving the stunning rays of light you see here!

Enjoy :)

Epic, Paul.

A single frame from a timelapse we shot a couple of nights ago near Goldfield, Nevada.

The framing is a little odd because I was framed more for the daylight portion of this timelapse sequence, but I wanted to show what a beautiful night it turned out to be.

Exposure was f/3.2, ISO 3200 for 32 seconds, I think. 16mm on a 5D2.

20 minutes before this shot we were hiding in my truck getting clobbered by rain and wind. :D

Paul, stop lying we have Photoshop too. :) It looks so fake! Crazy weird how it is so centered. Epic photo! Really wild stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Tom, I don't know why you would feel the framing isn't right. It looks extremely cinematic to me! You don't usually post ~2.4 frames, but still, it is plain to see that it just works! 0.02 The tree with the sunrise on the right works beautifully to tell one story, and the clouds, lightning, and milky way contrast in spectacular fashion on the other end... all with this beautiful curve created by the clouds guiding you from one end to the other. If anything I would have asked the set decorators to move the galaxy a bit to the left, but god knows how much they would have whined about it, so I think it is perfect.

Here's a couple of ones from me done in the last months... Hope one day to get more opportunity soon
Im also into Visual effect and Film making and you can see my profile and book here in case you would like to collaborate in a way or another?

Good morning from Istanbul! Just sipping coffee overlooking the Bosphorus, getting ready for the day and saw this amazing image, Jim. Am looking foward to preserving many beautiful images of this city on Scarlett.
