  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I've watched a few professional photographers work, and they regularly check the LCD after snapping a couple of pics to ensure their images look proper. Which makes me wonder...if you just looked at the LCD the entire time (through an EVF, perhaps) couldn't you skip a step and be assured of what you were getting all the time?

Personally I check focus through the OVF and exposure/blur through the LCD.

Even Apple's Rentinovision2000 doesn't have as much resolution as a good GG.

My immediate reaction to reading this was that I do this all the time as well. But what I am doing is checking the histogram, which I find very helpful. (and one of the reasons I will love shooting RAW video with Scarlet) Maybe this is what you are observing?

I wonder where they're getting the rigs from. About a month ago when I checked with panavision they only had 4 quasar rigs - Vancouver, L.A., London and New York I believe.

That probably means they're building 6 3D rigs. If they're building 13 3D rigs then that's 26 camera bodies! Shnikies!

Yes 6x 3D rigs and 1x spare camera. I was at Panavision in LA and they just put a huge 3D order, not only are they prepping for Pirates in 3D but Harold and Kumar in 3D with Genesis rigs aswell.

Panavision is doing all the rigs and moding the RED cameras to make them super bad ass.

Panavision spherical glass is about the same size of its PL-mount counterparts, except for old Super-Speeds and whatnot (the Panavised Z series are larger than their original Zeiss counterparts). Primos are about the same size as Zeiss Ultra Primes or Cooke S4's, the 11:1 Primo is about the same size as a 24-290mm Angenieux, etc.

New Leica Summilux-C ideal lenses for 3D rigs just because they are lightweight, fast and with the focus rings with all focal sizes at the same place...

Good to know. Thanks David.

I am excited too, also because Steve Jobs probably has some say at Disney and it seems to me that he may want to add some great features for Red directly into Final Cut Pro's next release.

That'd be an interesting way of getting more RED support on FCP. At this point I think filmmakers as a whole would like to see some support more so than just the iPhone...not just REDusers.

I think it was pretty clear after this keynote that Apple developes mobile devices (iOS) and not OSX, but then again what the hell do I know? Last rumor Steve said we'll be impressed with the new Final Cut. Being an Apple user since 1990 I can say Apple uses all of last years hardware. I mean it's hard to get a 1GB GFX card when you go windows the average is 2GB. Apple is always a year or two behind.

They're working on a 64 Bit QuickTime and Final Cut I hope. The only reason Apple has so much success with Final Cut is because of this little codec called quicktime, MPEG-4 or H.264.

Unfortunately After Effects is more or less the future, I call it the the Video PhotoShop, I mean lets be real.

Either way I was disappointed when no new Mac Pro was announced this past week. I have a 2006 1st gen Intel Mac Pro and I've already burnt out 6GB of RAM up-compressing Mark II files. I'd like to go PC but everyone and their mom cut's on Final Cut Pro.

Bye Bye Final Cut Express hello Final Cut and Final Cut Studio? Shake, Aperture and Motion need to combine is my opinion.

I'd like to go to the dark side but it's not as convenient thus I am stuck.

Boo

What features would we need that are Red specific that everyone else doesn't already provide?

All of the r3d meta data settings are already exposed through the SDK.
