  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Adobe Announces Support for Mysterium X

David McGavran, when you get the time, could you post what you would recommend as the best PC system hardware for motion picture editing with Red. Is Fermi going to make a big difference or not.

I've had a great experience with my new HP z800. It has a Quadro FX4800 GPU card. Editing RED footage in Premiere Pro CS5 works very smoothly. You can get it with a built-in RAID controller and I've striped a couple internal drives together for my media storage. It has dual quad core processors and a bunch of RAM so multi-core rendering with high resolution footage in After Effects CS5 is fast and reliable.

Fermi isn't required, but we expect the cost/benefit ratio to make a significant improvement when available.

This is pretty Amazing news...

I've been using After Effects since 1999 (yikes!) but was never satisfied with the editing power of Premier. I'm glad to hear that Premier lives up to its "Pro" name finally!

Maybe it's time I full on switched... hmmm

That is awesome! The last piece of the puzzle for the workflow I've been considering. I don't think I have a need for Final Cut Studio at all any more. Lucky I've been using Premiere since version 6!
 
Hey David,
I read the installation instructions very carefully and followed, But Some How Both Apps (AE and Ppro) unable to Import R3d (Keep Crashing).

Adobe should let Mac Users of Production Premium and Master Collection do a one-time serial number swap from Mac to Windows version on upgrade to CS5. I'd be all for the HPz800 if I didn't have to buy full version of Adobe Software switching from Mac to PC. I've never really understood that policy.

its so wierd but amazing how third party plugins are super slow and unresponsive when changing parameters but the mercury engine still plays back fluidly with no hiccups after adjustments are made
I love that FLUT slider.

Here is a visual cheat, it is hard to really visually Gauge what the R3D sliders are doing in the PPRo cs5 footage settings dialog window. the reference image is very small and very sharp. I f you have a dual monitor plus Plasma setup, open Redcine-x and set all to full res, now use the plasma monitor to view the image as large as you can. Now as you move the sliders FLUT, Shadows etc, write the info on a piece of paper, or use your second monitor to enter the curve sliders etc numerically. Of course the Plasma is not the best monitor to use, but it sure beats the EL cheapo LCD in front of you. and you can see in grater detail how the image is affected. Always remember that LCD have their own pattern noise characteristics and you should try as much as to calibrate them. If you search Red-user you will find threads on this subject. Also because you can't write to an R3D file, all your one-light corrections are meta data and the footage is indestructible.

As far as I understand you can use a "Cross Platform Upgrade"
I´m going from PC to Mac myself...

When I try to load R3D footage after installing the plugins in appropriate directories prescribed in PDF, I am getting error and my AE CS5 Trail quits.

Any Idea?

This is the same crash I am tracking down with Kwan... Will let you know...

Where is the reset button in the Source settings in PPro? I have to click cancel and relaunch the dialog box. Not really a big deal. But might be needed in the feature
