I didn't think the breathing was a deal breaker at all. Much less than the Sigma Cine's which few take issue with, Ultra Primes (or even Primo's), or pretty much any anamorphic but certainly more than say Masters or Summilux-C's. For me it was only really noticeable on the closer end of the focus scale.
The vignette also isn't as bad as my first tests showed (turns out my janky Petroff mattebox was causing much of it). It's still there, but well within the limits of what's correctable (especially with XD data?), and I even kinda like it. Of course I can foresee a few situations where it might be a bit of a problem, but it's very common to add some vignette in post anyway and I find it more organic, "real" or "imperfect"? when it happens in the lens.
TBH the thing that bugged me the most originally was the "cats eye bokeh*" but I've come to the conclusion that not only is that something Ive seen on any fast full frame/vv lens (maybe less-so on the Tokinas with their lager coverage, haven't seen/used them), but I've come to like it as well. I feel it adds some dimensionality or a 3D-like impression, kinda creates a semi-spherical plane that draws your eye in. *(bokeh is perfectly round in centre of frame, progressively more football-shaped towards towards the edges, tilting in the corners. One of my test frames demonstrated this well)
Of course I'm biased AF because I own both a Monstro and a set of this glass... (I'm lens-poor, heh).
Hoping to get my set back from the rental house over the holidays and play some more, might go shoot some wolves at a nearby sanctuary.
