  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Zeiss Standard Speeds or Angenieux Rouge?

Alternatively, it'd also be pretty sweet to stay Nikon/Canon mount if Angeniuex deliver on another possibility, introducing switchable DSLR mount's for the Rouge series like they already do for the more expensive Optimo's> http://www.angenieux.com/zoom-lenses/index.php?txt=11

Not sure if it is possible to do so due to the different rear element, but i'm hoping that the reason they haven't offered the different mount option for the 16-42 and 30-80 so far is simply because until Epic comes out there was just no point in making them.

I think a lot of people investing in PL glass that is T2.8 and above are probably intending to keep a Canon or Nikon prime or 2 in the kit for those [increasingly rare] times that you just have to have something faster and there's not a Master Prime laying around. On a shoot where you might be swapping between stills and PL a fair bit i'd probably rather change my Optimo over to a nikon mount once at the start of the day than be changing the mount on the Epic brain throughout the day.

Like i said i don't know if it is even possible, but it seems like it could be done and would be a great thing in a hybrid stills/PL glass environment

Well, that depends to me on how easy it is to switch lens mounts on the camera.

I heard it was going to be much easier than on RED One.

It looks, from pictures and diagrams, like it might be a four screw operation where you don't have to fiddle with the actual mount at all. If that's so, changing mounts might be as quick as a lens change. (5 minutes or less)

My expectation is that it will be pretty easy, but even so not the sort of thing you want to be doing in the field if for no other reason than why expose the sensor and internals to environmental conditions, such as dust, humidity and such if it can be avoided. I think it was mentioned a quick backfocus check/adjustment would still be necessary when swapping these mounts on the brain.

Alternatively, if you happen to go with the DP Rouges and Angeniuex happen to bring out interchangable rear mounts for them- which on the current offerings is said also be a quick, in the field, type of proposition- then swapping things to make it so all the lenses you use in the day have the same mount from the start is going to be quicker and safer than doing anything on set
